Chapter 5: Population, Troops and Pools
Population
Population starts of as a base figure which all cities have. On average, population is determined by the size of a city, but as the RP progresses this may change, based on wars, tasks and improvements made. To increase your population, your territory must have good law and order, you must visit various prefectures and counties and make good quality posts within the region. Only then will the population begin to rise, and even then it takes time for cities to benefit from it. As a result, once the quest is completed the population will not be added until the start of the next phase. This reflects the time it would take to summon people over. Remember, that no task or quest can create continous population growth, so every one task is equal to one boost at the start of the next phase.
The easier way to increase population is through the entourage unit 'Land Owners'. Which will automatically boost the city every payday.
Troops
As stated in other parts of the rule guide. Troops are gained through a percentage of your total populations size. The percentage is currently 10%, and cannot change unless specified by a moderator, or if certain events have transpired that allows you to get a larger base force. When you have gathered the total amount of troops for an expedition, so an example of this would be a city with 100,000 population, you'd receive 10,000. With that 10,000, 20% of your 10,000 become Peasants. The rest of the troops you may distribute among the other unit types available. Check the troop list for more information.
Veteran Pools
Veteran Pools may only be activated with a victory, and will be a percentage of your garrisons population. At the start of the game, no one will have a veteran pool, but as wars are brought to others and victories are won. The cities you conquer start to grow these pools. This is how a pool is determined.
If defending a city and you win – a set percentage of your garrison army will become your veteran army. Veteran units will be posted beneath your garrison when they're applicable. You must post these units during the start of a battle.
If you attack a city and you win. The losses are applied to the city you attacked from, and the losses the enemy occurred are applied to the city you just conquered. Then, a percentage of the army you attacked with will become the veteran pool and will be stationed at the city you just recently occupied.
Moderators will automatically issue the veteran pool count whenever a victor is decided. When you check your city, and your veteran pool says 5%, it means that 5% of your garrison army can be turned into veteran soldiers.
Note: You may petition to a administrator to move all of your veteran pool counts to a single city. This is useful when doing large campaigns, or moving one front to another without sacrificing your grand army. In the end, the veteran pool is merely a percentage, and will continue to increase whilst you are victorious. A veteran pool will only be reduced to 0 if your entire army is destroyed or captured.
Benefits of Veterans: they are crucial to an army, and can defeat regular soldiers easier.
