(Being that I've grown considerably bored with Wu Long, Zhang Shun will be my new character. Made with permission from Adam.)
Name: Zhang Shun
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Style: Original
Residence: Xu Chang
Personality:
Zhang Shun is somewhat of a melancholy person. He rarely smiles, usually appearing very serious. He is a highly skilled leader of troops, and is quite good with both spear and sword. He is prone to seeking vengeance at any faults against him, and is generally known to be cruel when it comes to dealing with enemy officers and soldiers, but is kind to allies. This is not the kind of man that someone would want as an enemy. He demands the utmost ability from his troops, and is always on the front lines, and being amongst the thick of the fighting. Outside of the battlefield, he is a romantic and a womanizer, often being able to manage relationships with a number of different women, who don’t really seem to be that annoyed by his rather frequent infidelity. He doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him, and he keeps his emotions in check. He is confident of his abilities, somewhat bordering on arrogance. However he does not think anyone as being less worthy than him, and he respects all opponents in regards to their fighting prowess. But that does not mean he cannot be ruthless, which is exactly what he is.
Appearance:
Zhang Shun is a tall, dark haired individual with an angular face, and tanned complexion. He generally looks like he has a mocking expression when he is relaxed, though that is generally far from the truth. His body is muscular and lithe, allowing him to perform great feats on the battlefield. He has few scars due to the protection of his armour, but he bears nicks and cuts on his arms and hands as the result of training injuries.
Apparel/Armour:
Zhang Shun’s armour is typical of a general’s armour during the time period; iron lamellar armour. The finish of the armour is quite nice, though it does not have an illustrious shine despite being polished rather frequently. Instead it has a matte grey appearance, or looks as though it’s been bead blasted. It offers great protection from all sides (arms, body, thighs). In certain places such as the top of the chest and arms, it is faced with decorative leatherwork, which also offers good protection from arrows by absorbing the impact, rather than trying to deflect it entirely. The lamellar plates absorb blows as well, but not to the same extent, and instead are meant to push strikes away. He wears a cape which denotes his status as an officer, but serves a useful purpose in regards to causing a distraction by its movement, and also allows enemy weapons to become entangled in it, thus disarming them.
His helmet is constructed of the typical style as well, being made with intersecting plates that are designed to deflect blows rather than absorb them. The face is left relatively open, and offers a great deal of visibility. On the top of the helmet is a plume, which further allows both friend and foe to partially recognize him.
Outside of battle, Zhang Shun will frequently wear clean, and simple robes, but they give off a kind of elegance that one would typically not expect from an otherwise rugged individual. The colours of the robe being rather somber, dark blues and greens, deep reds, blacks, etc. In formal occasions the colour of his robes do not change, but he owns some fairly ornately embroidered ones that give off an air of excellence to him. The embroidery is typically of the same colour as that of the main fabric, or of complimenting colours. He is not fond of garish looking things, so bright colours, and gold thread would be nowhere seen in his wardrobe.
Weapon(s):
Fangtian Ji Spear(as shown in picture): A rather effective weapon that was used both on foot and horseback. It has three main points of striking from; the spear point, the curved axe like blade, and a hook behind that. Used in a cut and thrust manner, the Fangtian Ji is not an easy weapon to learn. However Zhang Shun is quite competent with it, bringing a whirling death to his enemies. It functions much like a lance while on horseback, but with the added bonus of the hook means he can use it to pull other horsemen to the ground, or drag foot soldiers from behind.
History:
Born to a chieftain of a small village in Bing province, Shun was an unlikely child to survive to his adult years, due to the fact that his village had suffered a major famine, and all the families in the area were affected. His father had decided to have the village spread out, and thus they became refugees, eventually coming to the city of Xu Chang, where they remained.
They had managed to elude officials for some time, but eventually they were captured and Shun and the rest of his family were sold as slaves. The family was split up, and from that point on, Shun had no idea where his parents were, or even if they were still alive. Thankfully for his sake, a kind man had bought him as a slave, and was so impressed by his strength and practical knowledge, that he released the boy and adopted him as his own son, for the fact that he had lost his wife and son at an early age. Shun now had a family name; “Zhang”.
Shun grew up in relative comfort, as the man was a salt merchant and thus did not lack for money. He had tutors come to his home to train his son in every possible field; politics, military, banking, etc. He showed Shun how to manage the books for the business, and so Zhang Shun became part of the privileged individuals who knew how to read and write. It was through all this educating in these matters that Shun began to burst forth as an interesting individual. He was not exceptional at all the subjects, but he he could at least perform competently in them. His favourite (like most boys) was military training. He had access to some thoroughbred horses, weapon masters, and the most current tactical theories that were being taught at the time. He proved to be a capable student in these studies.
Time had gone on, and certain events had passed by that Shun had remained unaligned with. He spent most of his time training while the Yellow Turban Rebellion occurred, and even the coalition against Dong Zhuo. He was forced to look after the salt business after his adopted father had come down with an ailment that left him bedridden. So Shun passed these years in relative obscurity. His father knew of his dream to join the army, but knew that the business had to be kept running, and Shun was in quite the predicament.
The time came however when Shun’s father breathed his last breath. He left the entire family fortune to him, and said that he wanted him dream to become a reality. He would not be wanting for money to equip himself with weapons, armour, and horses, and there were other workers who could manage the business properly while Shun was serving in the forces. With these final words spoken, and the blessing from his father, Shun set off to join the forces of the man who had nominal command of not only the city of Xu Chang, but was also the protectorate of the Emperor; Cao Cao.

"Zhang Shun’s a killer. Killed three enemy cavalrymen and saved his commander’s life. Three seconds, slash, cut, thrust. And that's while he was still a regular soldier."
