History:
Lu Meng was born in Fupo, Runan Commandery (southeast of present-day Funan County, Anhui) in 1??. His family migrated south of the Yangtze River when Lu was young, and he lived with his brother-in-law Deng Dang, who served under Sun Ce. When Lü was 10 or 11, he would often follow Deng in his expeditions against the Shanyue secretly against Deng's wishes.
When Deng told Lü's mother about this, she was furious, but Lu said: "It is difficult to survive in poverty; if we can prove ourselves through hard work, then wealth would come eventually. How can we get the tiger's cub if we don't enter the tiger's den?" Lü's mother was so touched at his words that she forgave him and did not punish him. (Credit goes to wikipedia)
Lu Meng would later go on more expedition against the Shanyue, this time with the consent of his mother and brother-in-law. He would infiltrate the camps while his brother waited and steal valuable information. There was one incident where he was caught by two grown men and he had to fight them off himself. He did pretty well, knocking both unconscious and getting away with enough information to convince the governor of the town to take immediate action. He was awarded a small sum of money which he used to buy upgraded armor and get some tutoring and training. He would soon be ready to go to war..
