Age: 25
Gender: Male
Style: Canon
Residence: Xiang Yang
Personality:
Yù Hǎidào is a villian and a coward, in a loose sense of the terms and to a small degree. He is more of a bandit, pillaging and stealing from the people. He doesn't back down when he feels he can win, which is often, or when he doesn't respect his opponent. His biggest vice is a fanatic loyalty to the Sun family. He will kill innocents without remorse, but he will take his own life , which he loves very much, if commanded by the patriarch of the Suns. When given a choice between honor and money, money wins. Between honor and a quick win, the quick win. He loves the water, feeling a natural affinity with it due to his Shou Chun upbringing. Merchants are often the target of his banditry, as he despises them for providing no real services yet being rich. He has been known to kill other bandits and return their loot to the people they stole it from, but only those who steal from his hometown of Shou Chun and look like easy prey.
Appearance:
Yù Hǎidào has a narrow chin and eyes. His eyes are a deep, piercing jade. He has thin eyebrows and a handsome goatee. While he isn't very attractive, he has a dashing appearance about him that lightly covers a menacing look. His earlobes are short and his cheek bones are high. He has a very genuine smile and warm hands. He is muscular from years of hard work, that has also aged him about five years.
Weapons:
Yù Hǎidào carries a short handled bearded axe and half a dozen throwing knives. Swords and spears have no place on ships, too uncontrollable.
Apparel/Armour:
Yù Hǎidào wears flexible armor so he can move freely and swim without sinking. He has thin leather armor and wrapped boots. His helmet and pauldrons are made of iron though, in order to keep his head safe. The helmet was taken from a captain that Yù Hǎidào found dead. A close call with an archer prompted him to take it. He has to wear thick leather gloves to keep his hands from losing fingers due to the short handles on his weapons. They are a bit restricting, but well worth it.
History:
Yù Hǎidào was born in 194 in Shou Chun to a family of farmers. He never knew much about his parents because his was kidnapped by bandits along with other children in the outskirts of the city. He grew up believing his parents had given him up and still believes it. when he was nine the bandits put him into combat against a newly kidnapped child his own age to test his resolve. The other child cowered and begged to be set free lowering his sword in the process. Yù Hǎidào looked to the bandits, wanting to let the kid go, but a stern look from the leader and Yù Hǎidào yelled, plunging the knife into the child. He cried about it for a week, torn by regret. Then he steeled himself, pledging never to cry about death again.
A few years later, soldiers attacked the bandit camp, killing almost all and scattering the survivors. Yù Hǎidào didn't fight or attempt to be a hero, he ran, and survived. He regrouped with a few other kids from the camp and they quickly chose the oldest one to be a leader. The new leader was big and claimed to be related to Sun Ce. Yù Hǎidào idolized the boy. He could kill without mercy and take charge of any situation. It was only natural that he quickly grew to idolize the Sun family as well. Yù Hǎidào sat on the dock at Shou Chun with the leader, looking at shops pass by and eating when he was struck with an idea. Steal a ship and become pirates, they would be much harder to catch on a boat. The others ate the idea up and soon the were escaping from the port on a small merchant junk. It was exhilarating and they learned the finer points of sailing on the go. Within ten short years they were notorious pirates.
When the man that Yù Hǎidào had once idolized began taking more than his fair share and attacking Sun Quan's ships, Yù Hǎidào began to plot his death. He conspired with the other pirates to mutiny and take the ship for themselves, but the first mate sold them out and half of them were killed in their sleep. Yù Hǎidào was running for the water when he saw the captain engaged and facing the other way. A well placed throw with his axe and it could be over, but the loyalists still had an advantage in numbers, what if they kept fighting? Yù Hǎidào ran again, leaping into the river and swimming to shore. He made it back to Shou Chun and stole a small ship, sailing up the Yangtze until he reached Xiang Yang, where he stopped for the next few years. He continues a life of crime, seeing no alternative.
