Liu Bei
Xuande
"Confucian exterior, Legalist interior"
- Anon.
Age:
58 (b.161)
Gender:
Male
Style:
Canon
Rank:
King of Hanzhong
Residence:
Zhuo County, Zhuo Commandery, Youzhou
Current Location:
Chengdu, Shu
Personality:
Once a naive being whose frailty gave him the disadvantage, the road had been long and most troublesome but now the breeze has turned to favour him. Xuande is an aging man who has gained wisdom for his years, through experience of war and govenance with aid from mentors and personal study. Now an able statesman his judgement has become refined, continuously fair of his youthful years and soft in nature. On the other hand, his temper can be ferocious and those close to him who become hurt can provoke the rage within his heart to act rashly. But, there is no denying the kind nature he has that has brought him many followers and admirers, inspired by a new dawn the Green Banner could not be under the control of a better leader than what he has become.
Appearance:
Age has taken it's tole, but it has been somewhat kind allowing a graceul descent into growth and has not dampened the strength within his body. Adorned with earthy colours, each attire is made from a thick material unlike the fine silk robes many of his stature would desire; the main colour being of his Kingdom's sake, green. A respectful dresser, the hair is always tidy and care is clearly taken to be the true representative of the Shu Han Kingdom (even though there has been signs of his desire to place the suffix of 'Han' into history). When travelling, a darker green cloak is tired around the neck to highten his statue, or simply to layer within the colder seasons.
Apparel/Armour:
The armour worn by Xuande is one that shares similarities to that of any soldier within his army, not wishing to impose the arrogance of superiority and in recognition of his own impoverished beginnings, thin material under-garments are worn. On top of this is a thick leather attire for some protection and ease of mobility, to finish the war garb is small plated armour sown together with thick string that is then secured around any area vulnerable to attack. The only difference from Xuande's armour to the usual soldier is that the quality of standards is suited for a King, making sure that his safety is paramount. Xuande's hair is placed into a tight bun, once again obvious care of this is taken, and on some occassions (depending on the battle size; skirmish, battle to prolonged wars) a helmet is worn that is of a Dragon's head design referring to his ancestry.
Weapon(s):
Jinlong
Golden Dragon
This sword has a long history, with a strong blade it was paced down through the extended Liu clan and finally came into the hands of Xuande himself. It is sturdy with a high endurance, strength of any other sword and has an elaborate golden hilt with distinct dragon features. However, though of a higher standard than a usual sword, it is not indestructable and will one day come under damage.
History:
Beginnings were not favourable to the extended Liu family that Xuande was born into, they were far from the grasps of the Imperial Clan and could have been considered voice from the luxuries they devoured. But, his Imperial lineage could not have been denied, for the origins could be traced to the Emperor Jing. Bei was given life into poverty and toiled the field regularly to gain any form of currency for the family to be fed; his main occupation was that of a sandle-weaver..his skills excelled, yet there was something greater brewing within him. The dragon-esque features were unforgettable and the heart so wide it could bring the sufferings of many to take comfort. Xuande's eyes saw beyond the horizon, wishing for something ooutside the realms of the poor..he had been at their level, knew what they felt and would use this experience to surpass any given power to bring the poor a little piece of the aristocratic paradise.
During the Yellow Turban rebellion, Bei managed to gain recognition among the volunteer forces of the allied army; he was not trusted with those specifically trained for war and placed at a disadvantage, with considerable aid from two men Zhang fei and Guan Yu managed to place victories. His name spread and the rumours of his lineage took centre-stage, to which even the Emperor heard upon the wind. Officials searched to confirm that his words were true and had Bei finally accepted into the family he had desired, placed as the Imperial Uncle of the Han; yet, it gained him no true favours..for his struggle continued. Continuously on the favour, through the naivety and kindness he would bestow people Xuande was vulnerable to being double crossed and tricked. Through his life this would be a well deserved lesson and one he'd never forget so quickly..
To the West he travelled with loyal followers in-toe, all willing to give their lives for him..the gratitude would be repaid, one day, via the peace he desired to bring to the realm. The battle of Chibi was a devastation to a new rival, the Kingdom of Wei, lead by a man most talented and coy; Cao Cao. Indeed the Blue Banner was subdued, but with this silence came another enemy from the East..once an ally, the Red Banner thrust the blade into the skies and wished to gain back the lands of Jingzhou that they had truly desired, for it's fertile lands and rich resources. Now it was split, the two coming to terms with a mere Armistice that would no doubt run its limit soon..
To this day Liu Bei is a far stronger man than he used to be, no longer the naive youth of the years gone by and one who can see the ambitions clearly; not truly knowing who to call friend or foe.. But, there is the dragon within him, who questions whether his original path of wishing to restore the Han was the correct route to take..as history had shown, when a Dynasty dies, another must rise from the chaos to bring a new form of peace...
