1.5 years before the fall of Shou Chun
It was a dark night that descended over Jian An. Oh no, it was not the streets that were dark; like always, there were lit torches at every intersection, and every three doors in between. Rather, it was a dark sky, the mist covered moon giving the night a sense of mystery, a thrill of evil in the air. It was to be a dangerous night for the small group of men assembled in the market square.
Commander General Li Wang was seated on a bench, munching on an apple as he studied the sky. A dark night for a dark deed. he mused as apple juice trickled down the corner of his mouth. He idly used one hand to wipe it away as his eyes moved to the man sitting next to him on the bench. Jian An's newest General As yet unannounced General, but a General nonetheless! sat to his immediate left, looking across to where Grand Commander and Prefect Huang Gai was leading a patrol of soldiers. The Commander Prefect was by far the most recognized face in Jian An, and therefore impossible to disguise. Thus, he was camouflauged in plain sight. Li himself ran a danger of being recognized, but layers of dirt and grime ensured that none but the closest of his friends would recognize him now.
Zhao Fai, seated next to him, had a similar... camoflauge painted on his face. The two of them, for tonight, were Cai Xiang and Huang Zhou, cousins recently moved to Jian An from Shou Chun. That was the story for the respectable citizens of Jian An. Jian An's underworld had been quickly hooked on their inexplicably endless supply of Ma Huang. Including two deadly little vipers from Shou Chun.
Well, Xiang, I've had enough fresh air. You ready to go back to the inn? Li asked as he stood up. He extended his right hand to help Fai, or Xiang, up, the signal that the operation was on. By the end of the night, the snakes would be incarcerated in the palace dungeon. Lead on, cousin. It took all his power of concentration not to let his gaze linger on the Vanguard Prefect and his patrol, or the 17 year old boy wandering around with a spear 10 times nicer than his clothing (Lu Meng), or the jewel merchant hawking his wares (Lu Fei).[/size]
