"I was born treacherous, so let it be."
- Han Shen
Name: Han Shen
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Style: Original
Residence: Wan
Personality:
Sometimes, he may choose to put up a deceptively well-played façade of reserved kindness, to those deemed deserving, concealing his cold, even sanguinary, nature. But, normally he comes off as either arrogant and cold-hearted, or realistic and sensible. Shen likes to get to know the psyche of those he meets and, to his thinking, search for the truth behind their web of lies. Chronic migraines and violent convulsions plague Shen regularly, with major episodes occurring once every few months and minor episodes occur almost daily. Depending on the severity, it can cause him to be irritable and irrational, or he can lose his self-control completely. Although he rarely hurts anyone, some part of him blames the people around him for triggering the event, perhaps it is a natural way he copes with his illness. Probably due to the aforementioned, Shen seems to make enemies with most people who clash with his personality. He feels the need to make these people suffer. Shen doesn’t hope to gain anything from the chaos, only death, his or his enemies. He savors that euphoric rush the hunt for power imparts within him as his true passion, never caring if death lurks around the corner, and for Shen, it most certainly does. Overall, Shen is cold and somewhat hostile, if he’s being honest with you. Another notable trait, is how easily he is amused.
Appearance:

"I like being, more than being liked"
Of about average height, if not a bit on the shorter side. Although slim, he exercises regularly to keep in shape, particularly enjoying running, and trains in the martial arts. His young face tells a story of a cold and burdensome existence, epitomized by his tired light brown eyes. There is confidence in Shen’s long striding gait, and his posture and poise is as regal as any would be king or emperor. His dark delicately wavy hair is allowed to flow down to the middle of his back, in defiance of traditional scholarly dress. His facial features are angular and gaunt, with a long and narrow face, which exemplifies his almost constantly frowning mouth. All together Shen has a defiant look about him.
Apparel/Armour:
Han Shen does care about his appearance, if in a strange way. He wears laced black silk robes, without any head-dress (despising them), on a regular basis.
On formal occasions, he wears more lavish black robes with draping sleeves and gold trim, as well as other golden accessories.
During battle, Shen would wear a thick reinforced darkened leather armor chest piece, along with the matching bracers, boots, and a sash, with equally dark yet see-through flowing linen battle garbs draped over them, to epitomize his speed and skillful style.
Weapon(s):
short sword (level 1)
Shen has been instructed by his uncle, one of his last remaining relatives, on the use of a blade. He’s quick, skilled, and balanced with a sword, but lacks strength. His main weapon is his mind, of course. On occasion, when the desire stirs, he has used his skill with a blade to prey on worthless scum (i.e. armed ruffians, Shen doesn’t like fighting an unarmed opponent. What fun is that?) He rather enjoys the sight of blood on the edge of his sword and the feeling of tearing flesh. The sword he wields now has claimed over a dozen victims.
History:
Han Shen was born to a wealthy noble family of estate owners and civil officials in the city of Wan. He was the eldest, and only, child out of 13 to survive into maturity, due to a plague that nearly wiped out his entire family, save for his father, mother, two of his father’s concubines, and a twelve year old Shen, even the servants and animals perished. He didn’t go untouched by the plague, however, and suffers from a chronic illness. His family had seen his survival as a miracle, but the already world-weary Shen didn’t feel so lucky. The illness has always affected Shen’s mood for the worst. He often isolated himself from others, speaking with others when forced to. He liked only to play with himself as a child, unless the ‘playing’ was violence being inflicted upon the other children.
Despite his defiance, and violent attitude, and being the only heir to his father’s legacy, and his wealth, his father spent vast amounts to have Shen tutored by many skilled Confucian teachers, beginning in his early childhood, most of which quit out of frustration. Shen would scoff at their ineptitude, mainly because he detested the ways he was instructed to obey, as it was hard for him to obey anyone, unless it went along with Shen’s long-term vision. His father would beat him with a wooden rod in a drunken rage often because of this, but never was Shen’s defiant resolve broken. So, at the age of 14 he was allowed to began his own independent studies, in a desperate hope that he would further himself, in which he indulged in his real interests, military affairs and warfare among them, as well as martial arts and music. He was instructed in martial arts and the use of a blade by his uncle, an official and martial arts enthusiast, which began at age twelve and lasted until he was 20.
Probably the most surprising time in Shen’s life was at age eighteen. Shen became enamored with the daughter of one of his father’s friends. At first, the girl’s father refused to allow Shen to court her. Only after Shen’s father ‘convinced’ the man with a sum of gold, did he agree. Shen’s relationship with the fair woman sparked emotions he never could comprehend before, some of which took a very nasty sinister turn. Soon, the Shen’s volatile emotions and general lack of balance pushed the woman away. One day, in a jealous possessive rage, Shen clocked the innocent young woman with an erhu, knocking her unconscious as well as a few of her teeth, and nearly strangled her to death. He was never prosecuted, also due to his father’s money and connections, in turn Shen felt that he could get away with murder, which he eventually would.
When he was 20, his father was poisoned and stabbed by an unknown assailant, or so it was said… Never caring for the man, Shen merely collected his inheritance, left his estate to his uncle, and bought a secluded house outside of the city, where he resides to this day. He has done some questionable things over the last four years, along with surprisingly generous things. That is the unpredictable nature of Han Shen. Now, Shen feels the pull of the chaos, the desire to do what he normally could not without the level of chaos the land is in today.
