"Master Cheng is a fascinating man indeed. Once he fought wars, now he fights corruption. As to why he had decided to take up arms once more, I can only say it must have been because he was compelled to do so. A sense of duty perhaps, but I would like to think Master Cheng wiser than that." - Daoist Monk
Name: Cheng Pu
Age: 41
Gender: Male
Style: Canon
Residence: Jian An (Subject to change as necessary)
Personality:
A man of conviction, a man of honor with a strong sense of justice. He holds morality in his heart, he strives to treat everyman and woman as his own flesh and blood, even if they would do otherwise. Shaken by the recent conflicts abroad he has thrown down his spear. But deep within him something stirred, yet unresolved an internal war raged. He sees no point in bloodshed anymore, and has come to believe that the land will right itself, regardless of the actions and ambitions of others. But old habits die hard, in moments of tranquility he finds himself drifting back to the battlefield. He wishes for peace and serenity, as he ages he finds these to be in scarce quantity. Torn between retiring to seek peace within, and returning to seek it without he dawns his helmet and armor once more, he takes up the pike once again. Driven by conviction to find that which all yearn for, he will do it the only way he knows how, in combat.
Appearance:
Age is the watchword. Demou has seen it all, the death of his parents, close friends and comrades, the death of his liege lord. He wears the stress well, his face would appear to be slightly wrinkled, especially about the mouth and brow line. His hair is graying, but his body still retains a somewhat youthful vitality. His eyes are hardened, some might say, "dead." His stares can be so cold, chills sometimes creep up the spine of the recipient. But beneath all the wear and tear, there is a shining exuberance, a hope that lives beyond the dress of the body. He is 5'11" and approximately 157 pounds. His frame is toned, yet not overly muscular.
Apparel/Armour:
Armor - Iron armor, including helmet, greaves, and breast plate. The waist, wrists and thighs are covered in lamellar armor, light scale-mail comes off the shoulders, enabling ease of movement and provides ample ventilation via the armpits. Beneath all armor he wears cotton clothing.
Apparel - A set of golden silk robes. Great for formal wear and some light trousers and a cotton tunic for casual wear. Straw sandals for both.
Weapon(s):
Serpent Pike - Level 4
A 6 foot pike, with a reinforced haft of iron covered hardwood and a steel blade, curvaceous blade and green-dyed plume of horse hair. It is the weapon of choice for Demou. Comparable to Zhang Fei's Viper Pike, though lacking in awe inspiring capacity (read: ornamentation).
History:
Born and raised by a soldier, his family life was quaint, Demou already knew what was in store for him in later life. He had always shown a peaceful nature, kind-hearted and caring. He exhibited an unusual patience for those around him. He tucked this part of himself away for safe keeping upon being sent off by his father to the local garrison to enlist. He drilled and received a commission to serve a local warlord by the name of Sun Jian.
For years time passed in Jiang Dong, and Sun Jian commanded his troops to quell the activity by pirates and other thugs along the Changjiang. Demou saw action frequently, and quickly distinguished himself as a spear man. After slaying 30 men in one engagement before his lord, Sun Jian commended Demou as a man who could, "wield a spear as if it were the body of a serpent." As a gift, Sun Jian had a special spear commissioned by the blacksmiths of Mo Ling, thus the serpent pike came into Demou's possession.
As time dragged onward, Demou saw the rise of the Yellow Scarves reformation movement. Though he sympathized heavily with the people he was still compelled by his sense of duty to serve Sun Jian as he was commanded to. Sun Jian pledged his undying aid to the Han imperial court in this great struggle, and thus Cheng Pu was thrust into his first bouts of true combat, against a peasant rabble, but numerous it was. The combat Sun Jian saw against Zhang Liang around Xuzhou and Yuzhou gave Demou his first taste of the true horrors of war. Until then, he had been routing bandits and such, but now he faced an army, warriors with pride and purpose. He was inspired by how the three brothers could whip a frenetic mob into a raging torrent of iron and blood. As he carved his way through the field, Demou grew ever more valiant. Though he ached for a real challenge. As the rebellion was quelled and unrest consumed the imperial court, Demou would have this challenge.
Dong Zhuo, the tyrant of Luo Yang, a villain amongst villains took to power. As the coalition of regional lords drew up their forces against him, Demou followed Sun Jian into battle at Sishui Guan. There he aided in the crushing defeat Hua Xiong experienced and enabled the allied forces to continue onwards to Hulao Guan. Though he did not receive the chance to fight the reputed Lu Bu, he was thankful fate conspired to save him.
Still feeling green behind the ears, he followed Sun Jian south and participated in the siege on Xiang Yang that took the former's life. He fled eastward with Sun Ce, his liege's eldest son and heir. He made sure the boy received protection from Yuan Shu, but took a leave of absence upon confirming Ce's protection.
Now, he waits, reminiscing on days past, trying to recapture that bit of himself he kept hidden away. He leads an idyllic life with his wife and children now, thinking on how best to spend his remaining years.
