Name: Wu Long
Age: 47
Gender: Male
Style: Original
Residence: Chen Liu.
Personality:
Wu Long is a strong and passionate man who manages to find his way into trouble, usually the result of his fondness for strong alcohol and women, but he has a strong penchant for being quite philosophical as well, being able to recite many passages by Confucius and Mencius by memory. He has ambition for grandiose political designs, and is capable of wheeling and dealing with the best. He is not exactly disloyal considering he displays great affection to his friends, but he wouldn’t think twice about double crossing someone who he doesn’t care for, or knows well. However because he has a weakness to beautiful women, he has cheated on his wife and consort numerous times. Of course they can’t really say anything about it, and it was common for most men at the time to behave in such a way, but in some cases he just appears as a perverted old man.
Appearance:
Wu Long is a tall and thickly built man, generally towering above the average person, largely to do with the hardiness of his ancestors who were a nomadic people. His muscles are well defined, and being that he has gotten in numerous scuffles throughout his years of rabble rousing, he has many battle scars on his body as well. His eyes are normally fixed in a lazy gaze, bordering on even looking constantly sleepy. His face shows the signs of age; wrinkles at the corners of his eyes and mouth, worry marks on his forehead, but he still displays a youthful glow. He keeps his facial hair neatly trimmed, and his graying black hair is always combed and tied back.
Apparel/Armour:
He rarely wears armour, as he does not frequent battle on the front lines. In fact apart from his early soldiering days, he has not really fought in war at all. However when the situation calls for armour, he wears a simple cuirass of iron lamellar plates, and leather vambraces. His thighs are protected cuise of a similar style to his cuirass, but otherwise his entire kit is more for freedom of movement and comfort.
His day to day wear consists of a variety of silk tunics reaching to just below his hips, and fastened with a military belt, coupled with trousers made in the nomadic style, and calf length riding boots. Much like his military garb, his day to day wear is based on comfort and movement rather than being ostentatious.
His formal wear consists of finely made robes of rather somber colours, such as dark greens and blues, rich browns, deep reds, and black. He has the sleeves made short so as not to get in the way, and in general he looks like quite a respectable individual when dressed in such a way.
Weapon(s): Iron Short Sword (lv. 1)
A fast and visceral weapon, a short sword is designed for you to get up close and personal with the person you’re fighting with, and Wu Long employs it in exactly that fashion. Quick thrusts, and powerful slashes make this weapon quite effective, even if it leaves you wishing for more reach. To Wu Long, it is something that was from his soldiering days, and he merely keeps it for protection. He’s able at fighting, but not too keen with it. Still, he realizes it’s a good idea to keep it close by.
History:
Wu Long was born to relatively well off parents in the city of Chen Liu. They weren’t exactly wealthy, but they were far from poor either. His father was a civil servant with the court, and while it was a minor position, it offered stability and a good means to provide for his wife and Wu Long as well as 3 other siblings. The years passed quickly for Wu Long, going to his classes, learning how to read and write, as well as attending the military academy for young “minor nobles”. During this time, he really became interested in the ancient works by philosophers and historians, his favourites being Confucius, Mencius, and Sima Qian. On top of those, he was versed in military literature; the Classics including Sun Tzu’s Art of War, Sun Bin’s Art of War which was distinctly different from the former, Wu Qi’s Wuzi, the Wei Liaozi, among others, which was standard procedure at the time. He took to some of them, and was able to retain information, but his passion was not in warfare.
The academy passed quickly, and soon Wu had become part of a junior officer’s corp. It was rough work, as he had to be among his men at all times willing to lay his life on the line, but there were very few events where such a thing even occurred. His tasks were simply minor bandit quelling, general patrols of his posting, and supervising the building of public works projects. Years passed again, and when Wu Long was in his late twenties his father passed away. He was given the customary leave of two years to observe funeral rites; however Wu Long had simply grown tired of his position in the army. It was uneventful for him, and he also had to set about the task of caring for his widowed mother now.
He did this without complaints, and passed his time managing his family’s estates, as they had grown over the years and become land owners; so he did not lack for funds and supplies despite not holding any kind of profession. Because of this he was able to spend his years traveling the countryside making friends with other like minded individuals, drinking and cavorting with women. It wasn’t huge events, but the momentary pleasures in the moment brought him great joy. However he soon began to develop a drinking problem; he didn’t know when to stop. He was not the kind of fearful drunk that most would think of him considering his size and strength, but he was quite loud and prone to boasting because of it. Unfortunately other people did not take kindly to his boasts, and fights usually ensued, and Wu Long was frequently troubled by magistrates and other officials for “starting fights”, when he was just merry making. But it didn’t really bother him entirely, and he simply went about his ways. There was never any significant damage caused, so the events were simply chalked up as minor disturbances but nothing serious.
As the years passed on, he continued with his frivolous activities, until his mother who was quite an old woman had died. It was the words she said on her deathbed that really slapped Wu Long in the face so to speak. He was now starting to get to old age, and such things were not appropriate for a man of his standing. So he began to set out and change his ways; though in his eyes that was more making a name for himself rather than stopping his behavior. He already had a couple of children with the woman he took to be his wife, as well as another woman who was his consort. When he looked at them he thought “Is it right for my children to be made fun of, because I have really amounted to nothing?” So for the sake of his mother and his children he aims to become a strong political force in one of the local governments that have begun to surface throughout the kingdom.
