"Chen Gong is wise, but he is slow."
- Xun Yu and Guo Jia
Name: Chen Gong
Age: 39
Gender: Male
Style: Canon
Residence: Xia Pi
Personality:
An intelligent man with an eye for strategy but not the quickest to make up his mind, once he has made his decision he can be hard to shake off from it. Has a sense of honour but judgement is affected by his hatred of Cao Cao. His ambitions are currently secondary to that hate.
Jealously aware of his reputation and that he might not be well judged if he defected again, this can lead to him feeling trapped. The same awareness can lead him to quarrel with other officers, particularly if he feels they are diminishing his influence on Lu Bu. Will also blame others rather then himself if things turn for the worse.
Likes to call Lu Bu "General". Has an elderly mother and a young daughter.
Appearance:
A man of medium height and medium build, as yet unscarred by war, his hands smooth from lack of farm-work but skin tanned. A thick head of black hair that he has allowed to grow into sideburns and a goatee, which he often runs his fingers through. Has a rather sparse moustache, dark eyes and large lips but lines on his face suggest the strains of life are starting to show.
Apparel/Armour:
Prefers to wear a simple grey robe with brown trim on the sides, brown boots and trousers for any non ceremonial purposes, a blue ministerial hat tied to his face by straps that go under his chin. Will wear a rich, flowing robe with voluminous sleeves in his lord's colours in ceremonial or diplomatic matters.
In battle, wears brown padded armour with a grey plate armour over his shoulders. Wears a green Turban that covers his hair and flows out the back to protect his neck.
Weapon(s):
A simple Short Sword. Chen Gong prefers to stay near the back of the fighting but keeps his sword sharp before a battle just in case, he sees no need to adorn it.
History:
Born in the east side of Dong commandry where he studied as a student and, having gone to the capital to get a job, became a minor offical in the provincial administration. As the Han administration became to collapse, only the lack of lord prevented him from leaving his post as a magistrate in Zhongmou. Then he met an acquittance by the name of Cao Cao, a man who would change his life.
Chen Gong left his post to follow Cao Cao against the tyrant Dong but after seeing how ruthless Cao Cao could be, Chen Gong was deeply unsettled. His initial plans to murder Cao Cao were put aside as Gong hated the idea of such crime and feared the reaction of the people so Gong fled, desperately seeking employment. He found it at Dongjun in Xu where he was content, for awhile, to build his reputation.
When the great tyrant died and Lu Bu left the capital, Chen Gong left his post and went to serve the warlord. He was not going to destroy Cao Cao if he stayed in Dongjun and to serve the man who saved the Han allowed him the excuse Gong needed. Since then, Chen Gong has been growing fonder then he expected of his new master and eagerly urged Lu Bu to betray Liu Bei and give themselves a base to build upon.
