"A person who deserves my loyalty receives it." - Joyce Maynard
Name: Guanqiu Jian styled Zhonggong
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Style: Canon
Residence: Xu Chang
Personality:
Guanqiu Jian is a loyal follower of Wei and devotes much of his time and attention to his lord. When given a task he tends to become single-minded and only focuses on his task and that which applies to it. He is a reasonably intelligent general, prepared to accept the consequences of his actions and the risks involved. Although he isn't outspoken or entirely vocal about his thoughts, Jian is a passionate man and given to lapses in judgement and bouts of anger when insulted. Often he thinks too little of himself and has times where he doubts his own capabilities, rare as these bouts are.
Appearance:
Guanqiu Jian stands at roughly 5'6, a fair height for a man. He has neck-length dark brown hair that is usually hidden under his helmet, and a short beard and goatee. He has a faint scar across his right eye, only having kept his eye because of his helmet taking most of the force out of the blow. At almost all times Jian wears his armor, knowing that war and battle is around every corner if one isn't careful.
Apparel/Armour:
See Appearance Image.
Weapon(s):
Jian: A traditional chinese weapon known as "The Gentleman of Weapons" the Jian is a double-edged straight sword, excellent for both slashing and thrusting. It is a single-handed weapon, leaving it only truly useful in close-quarters.
Qiang: A long spear known as "The King of Weapons" the Qiang has a red tassel near the head of the spear, which is used to distract people from the actual motions of the spear itself. It's a mid-ranged weapon and highly versatile.
History:
Born in Xu Chang, Jian was raised as a common soldiers son. He spent his days learning the spear and sword, distanced from the other children. His father was a harsh man, uncaring of his feelings, constantly mocking him and insulting his abilities. As time passed, Jian grew stronger, eventually leaving his home and going to join the Wei Army. He could only hope that his talents would be appreciated, for once.
Guanqiu Jian was favored by the Cao Wei emperor Cao Rui. In 237, he led an army to Liaodong to attack the warlord Gongsun Yuan but the campaign was aborted due to floods. The following year, Guanqiu and Sima Yi led another campaign against Gongsun and conquered Liaodong. In recognition of his efforts during the campaign, Cao Rui granted Guanqiu the title of "Marquis of Anyi" ().
In 244, Guanqiu led a punitive expedition to Goguryeo, leading to the Goguryeo–Wei Wars. He defeated the Goguryeo army led by King Dongcheon near the Tongjia River and then occupied the capital Hwando. During the follow-up campaign in the next year, he occupied the capital again and forced Dongcheon to flee southeast. A subsection of the army reached the eastern coast of the peninsula and another reached northern Manchuria, but soon retreated. In commemoration of the victory, a stone carving was raised during the campaign. A piece of the monument was discovered in 1905. It is known as "Stele of Guanqiu Jian's inscribed achievements" ().
In 255, Guanqiu and Wen Qin started a rebellion in Shouchun against the regent Sima Shi, who seized control of Cao Wei's state power. Some scholars consider that he rebelled because he remained loyal to the Cao Wei royal family and was displeased with the Sima clan usurping power. Other sources tell that he was close to Xiahou Xuan, who was executed by Sima Shi, so he feared for his life after learning of Xiahou's death. Guanqiu's rebellion was eventually suppressed by Sima Shi and most of his family members were killed, while the surviving ones fled to Eastern Wu.
