"Liu Bei's son has joined the melee! Quick, get two other generals to help me hold him off!"
- Yang Hui, formerly an officer of Liu Zhang
Name: Liu Feng
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Style: Canon
Residence: Chengdu
Personality:
Liu Feng's odd luck has made him an optimistic and cheerful young general. Having been both the son of a soldier and then Magistrate Liu Mi's ward before his adoption by Liu Bei, Feng is accustomed to both luxurious and simple lifestyles. Around the Shu camp, he is known for his cheerful smile and belief that things generally work out in the end. Though he was originally trained as a soldier and known for the strength of his arm, after the carnage of the campaign for Chengdu and the battles in Jing, Feng has begun to seek for peaceful solutions to problems, preferring to use his silver tongue to his strong arm.
Liu Feng was never as disappointed as the day when his father named Liu Shan heir and successor. Though Feng is by no means ambitious, he felt that his years of service as both Liu Bei's son and general should have made him the obvious choice over his spoiled young brother. Feng has little faith in Liu Shan, and he hopes to be the one to carry his father's legacy into the future of the Shu-Han Kingdom. Despite this disappointment, Feng is very loyal to Xuande, and treats his father completely as if he had lived with him all his life. He is easily angered by those who remind him that he is not Xuande's biological son.
Appearance:
The young Liu Feng is best charactized by his handsome face and charismatic smile. He is built slightly better than the average soldier, and definitely possesses more arm strength than most. In his eyes, one can see the hope of a young though hardened warrior. His face bears the innocence and charisma to show the young part, though his arms bear the scars of a soldier. Unlike his adopted father, he cuts his facial hair and sports no beard. In general, he looks more like Guan Yu's sons than he looks like his father, since he is adopted, but he bears an earily similar charisma.
Apparel/Armour:
Liu Feng is commonly dressed in regal green robes befitting the son of Liu Bei. Despite this, he will sometimes change into a more common looking leather suit when interacting with the people of Shu. The color green still appears in the motiff.
When in battle or participating in military exercises, Feng wears a suit of iron lamellar armor under his robes. The interlocking iron pieces that create the lamellar armor of the time period provide protection for his chest and pelvis area. He would also wear light chain boots and gloves, able to deflect blows and absorb some impact from bludgeoning weapons. On his shoulders he wears two large plates, a customization he particularly asked his father for. They are particularly useful for deflecting blows aimed at his face and head, since he needs only duck a little to block the attack with his shoulder pieces.
Weapon(s):
Liu Feng uses a cavalryman's spear when on a horse. It has advantageous reach and is especially deadly when used in conjunction with a cavalry charge. Liu Feng's particular spear is made of an exceptionally sturdy wooden shaft and a metal bladed point resembling a small sword. Where the shaft of the spear meets the blade, there is a small hook that is crafted to depict a dragon's jaw. This is particularly useful for hooking an opponent's weapon and disarming them, although it makes the spear more difficult to pull out of a slain enemy. As with any spear, it is less effective in close range, though a skilled warrior knows how to still use it well.
History:
Liu Feng was born Kou Feng, nephew to the Liu clan of Changsha. His life was characterized by a strange fortune that seems to guide his path. His father was a soldier of the Imperial army, so he lived a simple childhood until at the age of six his parents were both killed during the battles that took place between the Sun clan and Liu Biao. He was adopted by Fancheng's Magistrate, Liu Mi, who taught Feng basic courtesy and literacy. Under Liu Mi's tutelage, Feng was given a more luxurious lifestyle and he enjoyed the learning that he was offered. The young Feng excelled in his schooling and at swordplay, so when Liu Bei took Fancheng as was received by Liu Mi, he impressed the Imperial Uncle with his knowledge and was adopted.
During his adolescence, he was trained in the arts of war by none other than the best generals of Shu. Zhao Yun taught the young man to use a spear, Sun Qian trained him to use his tongue, and Pang Tong helped train him to use his brain. He was given troops to command and did so with honor. His first military victory came against Wei when he was still not even twenty years old, when he succeeded in stopping their advance on Liu Bei's position in Jingzhou.
Liu Feng gained most of his merits for his service in battle against Liu Zhang. Along with Guan Ping, he thwarted Yang Hui and Gao Pei's plan to assassinate Liu Bei. Although he didn't notice that both of them carried concealed weapons when they entered the banquet hall, Feng's luck managed to save the day as usual. One of the waiters tripped and nearly barreled into a surprised Yang Hui. When Hui jumped out of the way, his concealed dagger fell from his robes and the plot was found out. Feng immediately grabbed the nearest guard's sword and charged at Yang Hui, subduing him while Guan Ping subdued Gao Pei. For this, Feng was given many honors and rewards.
Feng later led troops to counter Zhang Ren after Pang Tong was killed in battle. Through his efforts Zhang Ren was pushed back, but many soldiers died that day on both sides. Feng began to distrust warfare as the answer to improving China after the carnage here. Still, he served as his father's general.
He later fought at the battle of Hanzhong, where he witnessed Huang Zhong kill Xiahou Yuan. He had advised the old general not to attack so brazenly, but this time Feng's advice was misplaced. Luckily, Huang Zhong didn't take it and Shu won anyway.
