Name: Fang Dao. "AKA: Mountain Lightning"
Age: 27
Gender: Male
Style: Original
Residence: Currently a wanderer
Personality:
Growing up in a harsh environment and being forced to fight and kill for survival, Fang Dao can be a vicious man. There is a certain look in his eye, one of the fierceness and pride of a tiger...and he has the battlefield persona to match. When a charge ensues, he is often at the front lines ahead of his troops, leading them on. Fearless of death, he seems to fight with an almost reckless nature...but that is only the outward appearance. Fang Dao is actually quite perceptive, a trait that he picked up when he lived in the northern mountains of Yi hunting wild animals. His battle cries are almost inhuman in nature, sounding more like a demon then a man. When he swings his weapon, he does so with a violent and powerful drive that spurs him onward, actually ENJOYING the sounds and feel of battle and the scent of blood. They very act of killing an opponent in battle thrills him, and there is nothing like a challenge.
Off the battlefield, Fang Dao can be very gruff. He is not one for showy airs or standing on ceremony, and often speaks his mind....bluntly. He can be rude and inconsiderate of how other people feel. Though his outward mannerisms or that of a brainless brute, Fang Dao is by no means stupid or incapable of deep thought or consideration. However, he says it is "not his place" to be the thinker, preferring to be the man of action, and leaving the thinking to others. He also has a short and violent temper; it is not hard to drive him into a rage via insults or ridicule, though doing so is often a VERY large mistake in part of the offender. Despite these, Fang Dao has morals; he refuses to kill women, children, and the unarmed unless provoked with a threat to his life or well being.
Appearance:
Fang Dao is fairly large for a Chinese man, standing at 5' 9'' in height. His rough build was shaped by a rough mountain life combined with constant battles that have shaped and toned his body, as well as covered it with numerous small scars. His face is tanned from constantly being outside, whether it be sleeping under the stars, hiking through mountain trials, or slinging his weapon across the field of battle. He has long, black, straight hair, which is somewhat messy due to the harsh elements. He was a well trimmed goatee beard, and slanted eyes. His face is set in a fearsome scowl, but he is capable of the occasional smile and a laugh which brightens his expression. His hands are rough and callused from constantly holding and using the weapons of his trade, a two handed Dao and a Guan Dao. The fierce look in his eyes tell the a story of bloodshed, violence, and a harsh life, along with an unmatched ferocity.
Apparel/Armour:
Fang Dao is wearing a tightly, custom fitted chest piece of mountain scale armor developed by the Dian clans in the mountains of Yi. It stops at his waist, but he also has square shoulder pads that cover his arm almost to the elbow. He wears leather leg spaulds that stop short of his knee to prevent flapping and distraction when he's on the move. Leather boots allow for simple yet effective mobility, padded to prevent jagged or rough terrain from tearing through and hindering his mobility. Over the armor is a custom battle robe with the patterns of white lightning over a solid blue. He is often helmet less, claiming it obstructs his vision and interferes with his perception of the battlefield.
Even when off the battlefield, it is very rare to see Fang Dao without his weapons and armor. He firmly believes that a fight or battle can occur when it is least expected, and so wears his battle apparel even if he's just strolling around a town. On occasion, he has been known to shed his scale armor in exchange for a more comfortable attire, namely blue, loose sleeved robes.
Weapon(s):
Guan Dao: This weapon is used for when Fang Dao needs to clear thge field of men, or when he's dealing with mounted warriors. A wicked, curved, three foot razor sharp blade sits atop a seven foot metal pole, making for a monstrous swinging weapon with great range. Fitted at the base of the blade is a red tassel, which sways and flutters whenever it's swung to serve as a distraction to the opponent. Not only is this weapon great for slashing, but Fang Dao also uses it as an effective cleaving weapon, allowing the momentum of a swing to carry it forward to chop into enemies. However, it is not great at stabbing.
Dao Sword: When the Guan Dao doesn't cut it for the job at hand, Fang Dao pulls out a wicked looking curved blade with a two handed grip. This large, single sided blade is his butcher's tool, used to hack off limbs. It is lighter then the Guan Dao, which makes for better use at close quarters, but is still quite lengthy; the handle is at least a foor in length, customized to allow for a two handed grip or a one handed grip. The blade is four feet in length, and sharp as a razor. Once again, Fang Dao swings this weapon with incredible strength, but it does not serve well as a piercing weapon.
History:
Fang Dao was born in the northern mountains of Yi to a very harsh life. Though not much is known about his childhood, he has divulged that much of his life was spent learning how to hunt and how to fight in his small village. The training was brutal; if you did not adapt or meet the requirements, you were beaten until you did it correctly. This shaped Fang Dao into a fierce long lad, though it attributed to his short and violent temper later in life. He quickly became the best hunter in the village, as well as a fierce, formidable fighter. However, village life quickly became boring for the young man, and so he grabbed up his weapons and armor and set off into the wide world all by himself. It did not take him long to choose a so called career path. He joined up with a roaming bandit group known as the "Lightning Riders", where he quickly made a name for himself as a brutal and deadly warrior among their ranks.
At first, Fang Dao was content with the life. He had company, food, drink, and women. What more could a man want? After a short while, however, the bandit group 's attacks became more vicious; they would assault women and children as well, not caring whom they harmed. This angered the fierce mountain man to a boiling point until finally, he could take it no more. Challenging the leader of the bandits to a duel, he slew him easily, then took over. Under his leadership, the Lightning Riders changed their operations; they attacked only soldiers and guarded convoys. This way, Fang Dao got the fair sport he always valued, and the loot was worth the risk. He quickly became known as "The Mountain Lightning", famed and feared for his ability to ride in quickly, hit fast and hit hard. Those that witnessed his ferocity and lived in the local region thought him to be some kind of blood thirsty demon. However, it was not meant to last; the soldiers of the region eventually tracked the bandits to their hidden camp, and staged a night raid. It was a brutal assault, the bandits being caught completely off guard. In the end, only Fang Dao managed to survive, grabbing a horse and riding off into the right, cursing his carelessness.
Now, Fang Dao wanders around alone, hiring his blade out to anyone who could afford him. He has fought in many types of disputes and small battles, earning a somewhat small reputation. In that time, Fang Dao has become familiar with some of the literary arts and other books. He now seeks to make a name for himself as a warrior in the military, as opposed to some small time bandit who would fade away into obscurity. The question is, who will take this former bandit, and will he be a valuable asset?
