---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hoof by hoof, Hei Shi made its way casually down the into the city, its rider clad in a large black cloak that covered his armor from plain view, his short hair moving only so slightly with every sway of his steed. The black stallion let out a soft neigh, its Chinese rider leaning forward and patting the side of his head ever so slightly, a soft voice of reassurance escaping his lips as the horse calmed itself down. Hei Shi, or in English, Black Stone, had been the man's companion for more than a year now. They pretty much understood each other, and the rider knew he was uncomfortable in the new environment.
He had just passed through the gates of the city, the young man glancing around as he tried to figure out where to head to first. Well, his curious destination being who he was, he figured he would be at the political headquarters. Lowering his head slightly in deep thought, he figured no other possibilities, then tapped Hei Shi once more as the steed continued its pace down the dirt path. Villagers walked past him, going around with their merry lives, with the occasional glances towards the rider, for there were actually little people in this country that cut their hair, instead of tying it up. And plus, his horse seemed too large to be just a traveler's steed.
It was obvious who he was. Not to mention the mysterious aura he emitted due to the cover of his black cloak. Although he received no trouble, nor did he pose much, the curious nature of the peace-loving villagers could not help but glance and suspect him a bit. It was only natural, after all, for such people to be uncomfortable with unfamiliar features in their surroundings. And despite the facial expression on his face, it did not help make him look less threatening.
His dark brown eyes constantly glanced around, looking for any individual that struck him enough of being of significance, so that he may know the direction to the political quarters, and the rider may then be directed towards it. And after a few simple paces down the path, he caught sight of a man who stood by the road side, talking to a few other villagers. The man stood tall, emitting an aura of importance and authority upon himself, as the villagers looked to him with admiration.
Seemed like the kind of guy that he was looking for. With a slight pull on Hei Shi's reigns, the rider would redirect his steed towards the man in question, that soft warm smile still plastered upon the young man's face. And as soon as he was close enough, a tap was placed upon the black stallion once more, the otherwise discreet message easily interpreted by the creature as it stopped in its tracks, allowing its rider to come off. As soon as the rider touched the ground, the sound of metal clanging softly against metal broke his own silence, a clear indication of the man being armored.
He turned on the heels of his greaves, approaching the man, once more portraying an eerie yet friendly image upon those around him, his smile definitely contrasting with the black cloak that concealed the rest of his body.
"Excuse me, sir, but may I inquire as to the whereabouts of Lord Liu Bei?"
Obviously, the man had never seen Liu Bei before. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tagged: Liu Bei Music: N/A Notes: There you go~

[ "Work for the working man" ”I lie here, staring up at the stratosphere; and hoping we're gonna get out of here.” Liu Xuande was browsing the beauty of the outside peach garden; his eyes wandering as the elegant pink blossoms sprinkled down from each tree. It was dazzling, but above all it was significant. It had been a peach garden in which the oath; of the three brothers had been taken - Zhang Fei; the butcher. Guan Yu; the grain merchant and harvester and Liu Bei, the shoe and mat weaver. To think that these simple men would become three of the greatest heroes was unpredictable. But here he sat, not a single moment passing in which he forgot about the oath.
A young man interupted his thought, warning him of the arrival of a newcomer. A stranger from outside the walls of Xinye; it wasn't rare but the reports said this man was heavily equipped and was riding a steed of good wealth. Liu Xuande stroked his chin; perhaps an inspector.. or worse? He laughed, lifting up the messenger to send the man on in. How exciting to be meeting someone new; Liu Bei was a charismatic man - infact beyong charisma. He was so enthusiatic about life, he saw no crime, no evil, no death. With him he brought only goodness and no matter how much the tyrants threw at him, he simply bounced back. Though it wasn't to his own ability, it was the people. His loyal people.
Liu Bei sat patiently, sitting on the pillow where several cups were present of wine and pleasentrys. Liu Bei welcomed all company, from everywhere. Eventually the messenger returned.
"My lord, Lu Wei of Luoyang;Zhongyuan country."
He clasped his hands toward Liu Xuande and then to Lu Wei before retreating in the politest of manners. Liu Bei dropped his mouth before kowtowing himself completely and weeping. He shut his eyes as he cried, paying little attention to the man who had come in. Pleading for forgiveness almost immediately.
"Forgive me, your excellency!"
He wept pressing his face against the floor, bowing with as much energy as he could use. Weeping and crying, a true Han representative! He cried, how could he be so ignorant.
"Please! Do sit; I apologize for my lack of readiness. I am nothing but a humble shoe weaver not a governor. Forgive me, forgive me!"
He cried clasping both of his hands with tears rolling down either side of his cheek; offering wine to man. The Han meant a lot to Liu Bei; his great ancestor Liu Bang had founded the dynasty, it had turned into something it was wasn't meant to, but Liu Bei strived to right them wrongs.
Liu Bei was a humble man and knew his place in the world. Luoyang had suffered; heavily. The throne upsurped by a fiend; the royal family chased as if they were mice and puppets. The ten attendants. Liu Bei wept a little bit more; before controlling himself and taking deep breaths, in and out. He wiped his face of the tear drops.
"What brings you to the humble town of Xinye, your excellency?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- The man that the rider had approached was, unfortunately, not Liu Bei, for that had been the man's thoughts as he rode up on cloud nine. However, not all would be a complete loss, for it seemed that this man was a close servant of the said man, who would turn to the rider, giving the newcomer a suspicious glance, before inquiring for his identity. The rider gave himself a brief moment to think. His name was not a commonly known one. His father's, probably, but it was not a name that was probably welcomed to the known ears. His father, a military commander of Han, and an eunuch, had become a criminal under the decree of the Yuan family. Maybe he should be a little cunning here? Well, it seemed like the only way to create enough interest for immediate audience with the lord of this city.
"I am Lu Wei, from the province of Luoyang."
Luoyang, the capital of the Han. Such a prestigious title to use, and of course, a risky one, for if there be any other Han representative here already, the rider's identity would be compromised. Lu Wei, perhaps the only surviving member of the eunuchs under the attack of Yuan Shao, and probably the only one who had escaped castration too. He was, after all, forced to keep a low profile, and little knew about him. All in good fortune, though, as it meant that there was little search for the escaped 'eunuch'. The messenger straightened up almost immediately upon Lu Wei's answer, as he gave the man a nod, before requesting for him to get back upon his steed, as the messenger himself would escort Lu Wei to the man he sought.
It was not a long ride, and to say the least, the way that he was being pampered came off as awkward to the young man, for he had spent the earlier years of his life as the servant, and then the last five years as a lone traveler. A ronin, of sorts, with a secret hidden under his cloak, at the right side of his waist, latched upon his belt. As soon as they reached the respective structure, Lu Wei was then allowed to dismouth Hei Shi, as another member of the Shu offered to bring the black stallion to the stables. The commonly tamed horse was reluctant at first, but with a few reassuring words from the only human that had earned its respect, it followed, though with a grunt and a stomp of its hooves. Lu Wei chuckled, before following the messenger back inside.
Well, here he was, finally. It had been quite a long journey, indeed. And he was exhausted, to say the least. However, this matter was of complete importance. At least, it was to the man. He had to settle this, as soon as he could. As he entered the room where Liu Bei sat, he allowed himself a wide smile, though it faded away almost instantly as the messenger, or perhaps more suitably, the escort, announced his title. Lu Wei could only nod awkwardly as the escort took his leave, before turning to Liu Bei, pacing forward a few steps, just to get within respectful speaking distance. And before he knew it, the esteemed lord was crying.
"Forgive me, your excellency!"
Oh, crap. This was definitely not good. The lord bowed to him, the eunuch. And calling it an awkward situation for Lu Wei would be a complete understatement. This was certainly not the kind of respect that he usually received, nor did he perceive himself to be deserving of such. He was but a mere criminal now, in all aspects of the word, as labelled by Yuan Shao during the slaughter of the Ten Attendants.
"Please! Do sit; I apologize for my lack of readiness. I am nothing but a humble shoe weaver not a governor. Forgive me, forgive me!"
Lu Wei did not really have much of a choice. He took a few more steps forward, his light armor making only the slightest of noises as he walked, before proceeding to sit upon the pillow prepared for him, opposite Liu Bei. The man continued to weep, a gesture that only served to claw at Lu Wei's conscience. To say the least, he was too shocked and unprepared for the welcome that he found himself subconsciously speechless. And then, Liu Bei finally recovered, recognising Lu Wei, at least he thought so, the manner that he was more used to. A common individual... Save the last two words.
"What brings you to the humble town of Xinye, your excellency?"
Well, perhaps this was a proper time to actually explain everything. With that, Lu Wei allowed himself to shift back a bit, and similar to the gesture that he had received earlier, Lu Wei allowed himself to bow down to the lord in front of him, his forehead touching the ground, a gesture that the man was all too familiar with, back in his time in his service as a eunuch.
"My greatest apologies, Lord Liu Bei, but I am not the kind of man that you believe I am. It is true that I hail from Luoyang, but I come to you now simply as an average peasant. An average peasant who seeks refuge under your banner. If you would so, hear my tale?"
Lu Wei raised his head now, allowing himself to adjust back to the sitting position. If this man was as kind as the tales went, he would probably be only at least frustrated at the disappointment, but he would listen nonetheless. Among the lords that now governed the different provinces of China, Liu Bei was said to be the most virtuous. It was a popular rumor. A rumor that Lu Wei was unconsciously testing now. As soon as he received the go signal from the lord that sat opposite him, he would slowly reach into his cloak, towards the right side of his waist. And then, not a second later, he would reveal an object that no one had seen for quite a while. It was a white mask.
"You might recognise this mask, lord Liu Bei. It is one of the many designs of masks that represented the Eunuchs under the Ten Attendants. 5 years ago, when Yuan Shao ordered the extermination of us, my father, Lu Cheng, aided me in escaping, costing him his life. I carry now his mask, sword and armor. And I seek refuge under your banner, in return for my sword and mind. I seek not to achieve revenge for myself, but to honor my father's last wishes and live my life serving a proper lord of China."

[ "Work for the working man." ”I lie here staring up at the stratosphere; and hoping were gonna get out of here.” Liu Bei bowed his head, noticing his mistake; instantly forgiving the man. marshals and inspections were not rare and Xuande took precaution; he bade his apologies before pouring them both a drink carefully as he listened to the mans story.
"A servant of the Han, peasent or noble is a man worthy of hospitality."
He laughed heartily, before taking a drink with the man; as the alcohol drifted down his throat his face turn even more virtuous. The journey for Lu Wei had been long no doubt and he thanked the man for coming. He too had come across the Yellow River, into the hands of Cao Cao; along the Zhongyuan plains where he resided in Xiao Pei for a while before eventually fleeing down south, in Wan and then to Xinye. Several thousand li if not hundred thousand. It had been a tiresome couple of years, though it was nice to finally relax.
"Ah, the Ten Attendants."
Liu Bei saw them neutral, though they allegedly served the Han they were also known for their manipulative ways. They had been involved in a coup to overthrow Regent General He Jin; though the killed the man they were executed at the hands of Yuan Shao and Dong Zhuo, which ultimately opened the gates for Dong Zhuos rise to power. Though Xuande wasn't a noble or a politician, he kept up with current affairs actively, he finished his drink slowly before clearing his mind.
"Your father was an honourable man and your tale is one of inhumane strife!"
Liu Bei cried, he was very enthusiatic about his feelings; but no matter he was genuine the man studied him. He had to be careful for servants of Cao or even Cai to not assassin him.
"Very well!"
He announced valiantly before clasping his hands.
"I, Lord Liu Xuande; Prefect of Xinye accept you of your services under three conditions. One, you serve me benevolently and accept jurisdiction for any crimes you may commit against your lord. Two, you seek happiness and closure not only for yourself but the people around you. Three, you must always put others before yourself."
Liu Bei smiled, the terms were tough for a selfish man and were sometimes misfollowed by even the strongest of his generals. Zhang Fei was greedy and usually drank his troops out of wine. They weren't strict rules; merely a code of conduct that was rarely enforced. It was more a test.
"Lu Wei, son of Lu Cheng; do you accept to serve beneath a simple sandal weaver?"

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "A servant of the Han, peasent or noble is a man worthy of hospitality."
And as the standing lord of Xin Ye picked up his cup to drink, so did Lu Wei, the man definitely not refusing the offer for free wine. And besides, it would be quite disrespectful if he actually refused to drink with him, especially after he agreed to listen to his story. Besides, it'll help to cool whatever tension was between them a bit. Well, with that passed by, Lu Wei was going to continue with his story, and continue he did.
And when he was done with the story, he sat back, confident and yet nervous of Liu Bei's final judgement on his decision. It was when his sharp eye caught the first tear did Lu Wei gain hope for himself. Finally.
"Your father was an honourable man and your tale is one of inhumane strife!"
Lu Wei nodded his head, before dropping it for a brief moment, as an image of his father flashed in his head. The man, instead of helping the other eunuchs, had ensured that Lu Wei and himself had escaped. And when they had been trapped during the pursue, he willingly and bravely gave his life to defend his son. And Lu Wei had only been adopted. They were related further than blood. It was love.
"Very well! I, Lord Liu Xuande; Prefect of Xinye accept you of your services under three conditions. One, you serve me benevolently and accept jurisdiction for any crimes you may commit against your lord. Two, you seek happiness and closure not only for yourself but the people around you. Three, you must always put others before yourself."
Lu Wei listened intently, nodding his head at every condition. Serve him benevolently? Well, that was easy. After all, he was raised a eunuch. He could not really be considered a eunuch because he was not castrated, but he knew how to act like one. Any crimes that he may commit? That sent a chill down Lu Wei's spine as a familiar voice echoed at the back of his head. It was his own, but a darker tone. From then on, Lu Wei took in what else he said, but also focused on the voice in the back of his head.
"Are you really willing to serve this guy?" "... It's what father wished for, in his dying moment. I will not dishonor the wish." "... Well, whatever. As long as I get the fun I want, then there's no other complaints from me."
"Lu Wei, son of Lu Cheng; do you accept to serve beneath a simple sandal weaver?" Lu Wei looked at the prefect. Should he tell him? Well, he had the right to know, but how was he going to explain this? Quickly coming to a decision, he placed his hands together, and bowed. "I accept, lord Liu Bei. But... There is one more thing you should know."He looked up, holding the mask in his right hand once more, before looking at it. "During my escape... Something happened to me. I'm not sure how, but there is another being inside of me. Another personality. A more violent person, but definitely stronger and more skilled in combat. And he is only unleashed whenever I wear this mask. He protects me in battle, but I fear his capabilities sometimes."[/blockquote] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tagged: Liu Bei Music: Can You Handle It, by Usher. [ "Work for the working man" ”I lie here, staring up at the stratosphere; and hoping were going to get out of here.” Liu Bei looked at the man puzzled for a moment, questioning his mental stability before laughing heartily to reassure him. Liu Bei did contain the most sophisticated of members, nor the smartest, nor the richest. But it didn't matter.
"My vision is to one day restore the Han; to create a land of peace and unity. For father and son to live at home rather than fight wars. For poverty to decease and a long with it pain and hardship. But for that we must fight. A lot of people will die in the end; I ask only that you put you life on the line for the greater vision and if we are to fall together, my friend. Then let us die the honourable death of a martyr."
He paused for a moment, smiling generously reconsidering his offer before continuing.
"I have men within my ranks who can split and apple in half from several li away... I have men within my ranks who can seperate the clouds and call rain in the harshest of months.. I have men who can seize a base with only a handful of men but I do not have men who are solely benevolent; remember, no man is pure but that does not mean we shouldn't attempt to strive towards it."
He laughed, his infliction wouldn't matter. Every man had the choice to select their actions; he could manipulate the curse no doubt. Liu Bei however would keep a strict eye upon him, to understand exactly what he meant. He had been sceptical of Eunuchs and didn't want to become a fool of one like He Jin.
"I will house you within Xinye, momentarily. We will be marching for war any day now, so please do not get too comfortable my lord."
He laughed, before clasping his hands to the man. Liu Bei was a young ruler of a charismatic case; though feeble are weak to the knees with his love for the people he was a strong warrior. His rise to fame had been through a simple volunteer army against the Yellow Turbans, he was an honourable opponent.
"Is there anything else I could assist you with, my friend?"

And the lord replied, reassuring Lu Wei as the man listened to every word that left the man's lips. However, there was one particular word that had hit the man quite hard. It sent a soft chill down his spine, which was followed then by a warm sensation. He had referred to Lu Wei as 'friend'. Friend. The man could not even remember when was the last time he was called that. He smiled. A friend, huh? Well, Lu Wei would certainly not mind dying for a friend.
"... You're so naive."
No man is pure indeed. Lu Wei lowered his head for a moment, remembering how shunned he had been outside the social circle of the Eunuchs, around the average citizens of Luoyang. Lu Wei himself was technically not a Eunuch, but he was still ill-seen as one. And even the Eunuchs were not as uncorrupt as they claimed to be. Lu Wei had seen it with his own eyes, the deception, the blackmail, the underground connections. He wandered too much for his own good.
"I will house you within Xinye, momentarily. We will be marching for war any day now, so please do not get too comfortable my lord."
Good news and bad news in one go. Liu Bei certainly knew how to make conversations interesting. He lifted his head, a glint of curiosity in his eyes. As his new lord finished his turn of this conversation with an inquiry, Lu Wei would tilt his head in confusion. War? He had not heard of any recent news, so he was unsure of what was going on truly in the modern date, but he did somewhat expect this to happen. Though, which force was Liu Bei having war with, he wondered.
And war... Looks like Hei was going to meet action sooner than he thought. The voice at the back of the head rejoiced with a sinister tone.
"You mentioned war, my lord? And who would we be crossing swords with?"

[ "Work for the working man" ”I lie here, staring up at the stratosphere; and hoping were going to get out of here.” Liu Bei laughed before standing up a little, brushing himself off before bowing to the man.
"Walk with me, tire of these walls when a world outside flourishes with beauty."
Xuande's face was never far from grace, a heart warming smile, the soft and gentle brow and his caring aura enlightened the atmosphere; as the man arose Liu Bei lead him out of the quarters and into the courtyard, the kind singing of the birds above, Liu Bei wandered around extending his arms and embracing the world, the winds danced around him; thistling through his simple garments.
"War.."
Liu Bei muttered in discust; he wasn't a fan of it, though he was acclaimed as one of the greatest warlords within China. He laughed a little and then a lot before turning to the man with a hilarious look upon his face.
"Oh we do not fight with our blades down here in Shu.."
He laughed, before crouching down and drawing into the gentle sand of the courtyard something his mother had taught him as a young child. His finger gently outlining and image, for several minutes he sketched before finally he pulled away to admire the work from the oberservers point of view.
"It means does not seek war, but seeks to protect those who cannot protect themselves in war."
Liu Bei smiled, placing his hand on the mans shoulder. He would not hesitated to draw a blade upon a man who dared kill an innocent but would never draw a blade upon an innocent man, it was unjust.
"To the north lies Cao Cao, no doubt you know of the man, a cruel yet cunning ruler. To either of his wings lie Yuan Shao and Lu Bu who hold him in check momentarily; thus we must make our move before the gluttonous distended stomach of the traitor turns south."
Liu Bei replied to his question finally, reminding himself of the hardship before; a little tear rolled down his face before he smiled gently through the tears. Brushing them away smoothly with sleeves.
"The Prefect of Yong'an has declared war upon my humble city, and in the defence of our Excellency, Liu Biao we must move to strike."
Liu Bei finished, as if he wasn't telling the full story currently but none the less they would fight.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Walk with me, tire of these walls when a world outside flourishes with beauty."
Lu Wei nodded his head in acknowledgment, before quickly getting up in his feet, his right hand reflexively latching the white mask back onto his belt. And the short-haired male would follow the prefect of Xin Ye outdoors, into the courtyard, the young man finding himself feeling a serene sensation overcome him. This place was beautiful. Then, he heard Liu Bei mutter the same word that Lu Wei had inquired, his attention turning back to him, his eyebrows raised in curiosity.
And suddenly, he would burst into laughter, killing the dark mood that Lu Wei had sensed from him just a second earlier. And as confused as the man was, he could only smile along. He had no reason to laugh, nor was there any reason for him to frown and so he did what anyone would do. Smile.
"Oh we do not fight with our blades down here in Shu.."
And he would proceed to go down to a crouch, one hand outstretched as it pressed against the sand of the courtyard. Not wanting to be disrespectful, Lu Wei took a step back to keep a reasonable distance between them, his dark brown hues watching Liu Bei's hand draw upon the sand. Calligraphy? Seemed like it. It took him a few minutes, but Lu Wei remained patient, watching silently from where he stood.
"It means does not seek war, but seeks to protect those who cannot protect themselves in war." "... Shu..."
He repeated the word in his head afterwards, as if etching the idea of Shu into his mind. If he was to be a benevolent servant of this lord, he was going to have to accept his ideals. And this was one of them. Surprisingly, Lu Wei found it easy to acknowledge and absorb.
"To the north lies Cao Cao, no doubt you know of the man, a cruel yet cunning ruler. To either of his wings lie Yuan Shao and Lu Bu who hold him in check momentarily; thus we must make our move before the gluttonous distended stomach of the traitor turns south. The Prefect of Yong'an has declared war upon my humble city, and in the defence of our Excellency, Liu Biao we must move to strike."
Cao Cao. Of course Lu Wei knew him, but he flinched at the mention of Yuan Shao's name. Despite his father's wishes, Lu Wei was still as human as any other person. He naturally sought revenge, mentally battling this temptation with the reminders of his father's dying wish. The Prefect of Yong'an, huh? Lu Wei had yet to meet the man, but he had traveled past his lands. Of course, it had cost Lu Wei a bit of cash, but it was necessary to reach Xin Ye. So, their targets were, first, Yong'An, and then Cao Cao, huh? Good enough for Lu Wei, as long as he could serve.
"I will go to wherever my lord desire me to, and I will give both my mind and my blade in service to you."
He bowed. Hei had unleashed a bit there for a moment.

[ "Work for the working man" ”I lie here, staring up at the stratosphere; and hoping were going to get out of here.” Theme MusicLiu Bei nodded to the man, however he did seem a little 'paramilitary; he would need to adapt to the ways of Shu before Liu Bei even considered sending him to battle. Shu was an idea not a kingdom; it was a vision, the dream. Unlike the other warlords Liu Bei didn't compromise with death, he tried to avoid worthless killing at all costs, there was always chances for negotations.
"Ha, don't be so swift young one."
He smiled at his kind offerings, his blade and his mind. But that wasn't what Liu Bei needed, a blade was fine and a well craft mind even finer, but what Liu Bei needed was heart. Men of unmatched bravery, who would look into the outnumbering odds of the enemy and laugh in overconfidence. A man who would fight on the highest chasm against the worse odds. Heroes.
"A man who fails to prepare Master Lu Wei, is preparing to fail."
Xuande was a wise man, before he had signed up for the volunteer army he had studied beneath a relative of his where he had learnt meant secrets of history, astronomy, war and politics. His motive was uncertain by what he meant, but he was a well thought ruler. He had no lack of confidence in the jurisdiction of the Prefect of Yong'an for acting so selfishly.
"You must come to understand the way of my people; Master Wei. For we are many, but we are also few. Merely because enemies reside in the north does not condemn us the right to attack them nor the opportunity. Like a spider slowly lays her web and waits patiently, so must we."
He informed the man, acting impatiently was a fools ending, Allow the enemy to strike first; reveal his strengthes and then strike his weaknesses. Cao Cao was a powerhouse, but no fool would attack him head on; first Liu Bei needed to seize enough power.
"For he who draws the sword, will die by the sword.. you know this too well.. do you not? All men do."

---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Ha, don't be so swift young one."
Lu Wei nodded his head. He may seem enthusiastic about this issue, but the man himself had a negative view on battle. Senseless killing and battle rage. Such emotions were unrequired, and had claimed too many lives than it was worth. It had claimed his friends. It had claimed his father. And it had even probably claimed his real family. Too many lives lost. It was probably why Hei had been created. Lu Wei despised conflict, but there was no running from it. And Hei was there to fight for him where he would not.
"A man who fails to prepare Master Lu Wei, is preparing to fail."
Now, by Lu Wei's mind, one would wonder what exactly was he implying. Well, it was simple. He had been an adopted son of a military commander. He would have been taught military tactics and combat judgement, two skills that Lu Wei had initially thought to be pointless, but was grateful for nonetheless. Besides, it would prove to be useful, like a time like this. He never thought then that it would come to this, however.
"You must come to understand the way of my people; Master Wei. For we are many, but we are also few. Merely because enemies reside in the north does not condemn us the right to attack them nor the opportunity. Like a spider slowly lays her web and waits patiently, so must we."
Lu Wei glanced down for a moment, placing his hand on his chin. That was a good plan, actually, but a bit risky. Staying in this shell hampered how much they could see, and sometimes seeing beyond your opponent was the key to battles. Besides, knowing Cao Cao, his troop count would undeniably be larger than their own. Even if they could survive the first wave, Cao Cao may just strike with a second wave before Shu could even recover.
"For he who draws the sword, will die by the sword.. you know this too well.. do you not? All men do."
Lu Wei glanced up at Liu Bei, the man wise and charismatic. He smiled, nodding his head in agreement.
"All men do."
Lu Wei did not have much more to ask, in all honesty. He was here to serve, and for now, he was but a servant with no designated role yet. He would do whatever Liu Bei would ask of him. And he would prepare himself for the upcoming battle. At the back of his head, he heard Hei's excited snicker. Unlike Lu Wei, someone was apparently excited for what was to come.

[ "Work for the working man" ”I lie here, staring up at the stratosphere; and hoping were going to get out of here.” Liu Bei smiled at the man learning, big city rules were far from small town ones. The man would fit in sooner than later, but he had to educate himself a little. Liu Xuande did things differently down here, a lot differently.
"I will accept you to drilling duty, two times a day I except you will exercise the military. Upon this I require all officers to donate at least two hours of voluntary labour a day. I presume this is suitable to your taste?"
Liu Bei smiled, entrusting the man. Through growth and unity they laid the path for victory. Much like the spider, numbers counted for naught against well-trained, well-hearted men commanded by unflawed generals. Xuande was due for his own labour and therefore dismissed the man to his assigned housing for the rest of the day to settle in.

"I am content with that, my lord. Thank you. I shall now take my leave."
Drilling duty. Lu Wei mentally flinched at that thought. He had been hoping for a more peaceful task, one that brought him away from the tools of war, something where his skills as a scholar could be of use, having being raised in all aspects of a Eunuch. However, it was his lord's wishes, and he would have no arguments. The man nodded his head as he took a step back to dismiss himself.
Voluntary labor, and drilling duty. Well, he could work with that. Besides, like everywhere else, you would have to suffer the bitterness before the sweetness emerges, right? But for now, Lu Wei would have to settle the other matters if he were to settle down here. For example, housing. He still had a bit of gold from his travels here, doing simple jobs to earn enough money. He should be able to afford lodgings at the inn first, and with his salary from service from Liu Bei, he would be able to buy something better for himself. And not to mention Hei Shi.
That horse had saved his life, after all. Then, with the help of an escort, Lu Wei left the compound, leaving Liu Bei for his own matters. Yes, the first step in fulfilling his father's wishes was complete.

For nothing really occurring much, this was a surprisingly good read, a great rp. By both of you. There was no domestic things happening, so I wouldn't really label this as a task, but it is a great start to a plot.
