Kigera and his band of Di ronin walked through the streets of Xin Ye to neither cheers nor applause. It was to be expected though; with the exception of Kigera and Hu Ren, they all looked like a bunch of trouble starting riftraft. But their appereances couldn't be helped, the Katasa family had fallen on hard times and maintaing such a force was costly.
Of course, just because they looked poor, that didn't mean they weren't getting paid. It was actually on the contrary, Kigera paid his men quite nicely. He simply figured they'd prefer that over "pretty uniforms".
You there. Yes you. Find me a suitable enough inn to house both me and all of my men. You will be rewarded nicely for it.
The man whom Kigera had spoken to blinked in horror, most likely intimated by the large group of rough looking men facing him. Well woman too, if you included Lu Len. Most likely, it was Kigera's mention of reward and the fine clothes that Kigera wore that kept the man from running.
I-I would recomment the Inn of Heavenly Sky. T-They accept all kinds.
His comment caused the group of men who had just been chatting and laughing amongst themselves to suddenly quiet and stare at him with amused eyes. As if something mischevious was going to happen. Kigera had to bite his own tongue to keep from smiling as Lu Len approached the man and wrapped her arm around the man's neck, pressing her face to his.
And what do you mean by.....all kinds?
Although Lu Len was very attractive, her body enticing, her face capitivating, her voice soft and angelic, there was always a expression she carried on her face that negated all of these perfect qualities. A expression that had kept any and all sutiors away from her despite how beautiful she was. Malice. Malice was what her eyes promised any who would dare to get too close to her. Or offend her as this man seemingly had.
I-I didn't mean anything by it. I-I was just...
Len interrupted him by blowing in his ear and whispering Yes?
Although her voice was soft and sweet, her sword slowly made it's way to the man's neck. The guy looked like he was going to faint.
F-Forgive me! The man begged starting to tremble and cry. Including Lu Len, who let go of her hold on the man and started to resheathe her sword, Kigera's whole troop burst out into laughter at the man's display of fear. Such cowardice deserved public ridicule!
Despite this, Kigera swallowed in his grin and apologized.
Forgive my companion. He told the man as his men once again begun to laugh amongst themselves, tuning both him and Kigera out as they discussed what taverns and other havoc seeking places they planned on visiting while they were here.
We have spent the past few months fighting and raiding bandit camps all across Yizhou and now Jing. Manners is something my men haven't had the time to acquire yet. My humblest aplogies.
Kigera started to make a low bow to the man to show the sincerity of his words but his action was prevented by the shocked man, who placed his hands on Kigera's shoudlers to stop him.
Please Daren, I am merely a poor shopkeeper. There is no need to pay me such respects.
And I am the leader of a mercenary band. It is I who should address you as daren, for even a shopkeeper plays a vital role in bringing peace to the land. I am sure your noble ruler Liu Bei would say likewise as well.
Pleased with his words, the shopkeeper blushed and gave a bow to Kigera out of gratitude.
Please noble sir, allow me to lead you to the inn I spoke of.
Kigera bowed in return.
Nothing would please me more sir.

Huang ShiYou wield you blade with no thought of others. I was prepared for this possibility~ It was a rucus and they would be quite foolish to believe that word would spread, for Xinye was a small vacinity and the rumours would spread as the fires of the Nether Realm. Yet, it was something that would not be of interest to the Officials of the upper echellons of the Palace. However, there was one being who gained the ear of this ill wind and could not help to be intrigued. There was a lot of time to prepare for this interesting meet, something that many of the handmaidens feared; after all, they had coward a man of the local markets...supposedly of hardy stock. Did they truly know their mistress? A breath was needed as the black veil was wrapped around the face, the triangular hat with the black material that could form a veil over the entirety of the woman's head...hiding the face from all to see, but this was not necessary for today. And attire of black and red was taken, the battle ensemble used by an infamous woman whose husband could not be more repute than the Heavens; the wife of the Sleeping Dragon, Lady Huang. Turning to the staff under her employ, personally chosen from the estate in Xiangyang, the young woman chose two elder maids and four younger maids who were made of sturner stuff than the handmaidens who were considered 'dainty'...Mercenaries, who so they believed themselves to be, had been something the Lady Huang enjoyed to entertain. Their confidence was high and their downfall all the most spectacular, such beings who believed their prowess was above the Heavens were placed below commoner status...thus, forcing them to conform to a certain stereotype that would inevitably be their demise. Another breath as the troupe exited the estate and made their way to the last sighting of the rabble that had entired this fair city; to torment such innocent beings was unnacceptable and it gave nothing more to their reputation..merely known as bullies, beings of ill worth and not worth anyone's time. Though, Lady Huang only hoped that these could be of a different mirth, perhaps there was a misunderstanding?... Walking in a diamond formation, the eldest two maids stood behind Lady Huang on either side; then the younger maids did the same to form the diamond. A confidant pace and eyes to gather upon another strange sight, for the Lady Huang had not been active as of late and spent most of her time with the beloved son that was now well protected...after the events outside the city..Weeds were not hard to find, with a good eye and simply opening them the obviously dirty clothed group were in vision; no doubt their perceptions of a woman such as this, of a wealthy birth, would be of a woman who was used to yielding...such preconceptions would be futile. The maids did worry for the safety of their mistress, though the incident where she had personally fended off people like this some days ago, allowed their hearts to settle some what. "Quite a stur you have made, dear visitors. To what reason is there to persectue and tease a being of innocence?" Many people of the Jing region, mostly of Northern Jing could recognise the figure that now stood before the mecernary group; known for covering her face with the rumours of her ugliness..of course set by her own mouth..but the intelligence quite dangerous, though mediocre in the way of martial arts the woman could protect herself; having an absent husband many bandits believe the estate becomes vulnerable....they learned their fate the hard way."I somehow do not believe that your presence in this small city, is just to cause trouble and unsettle the people?" An eyebrow was raised, the tone much more playful than before and the expression hidden by the black veil. The Lady Huang had noticed a woman in this group, how shameful to degrade one's gender by causing disrupt..no doubt a woman who had yet to gain a husband, or..could she have been the result of the poor, whose family could not afford yet another girl? Such harsh times they had to walk through, nevertheless, the matter at hand was the reason to why such people felt they could walk as Gods..when truly, the peasants were the Gods above them. The maids behind Lady Huang made no eye contact, such was improper and so their eyes diverted close to the group's feet...

While in the process of heading to the Inn of Heavenly Sky, Kigera and his troop were approached by a rather interesting group. Six females led by a seventh one who seemed to have a air of confidence and nobility about her with the graceful way she walked and how her maidens trailed after her in a perfect manner. Who was this woman Kigera thought to himself? The daughter of a noble? The wife of a high ranking general? Or perhaps one of Liu Bei's concubines?
And then the subject of her veil distracted his thoughts as well. Was she in mourning? Or does she wear it out of arrogance? To say to the world that none are worthy to view her...
Beauty. I tell ya she's gotta be one hot beauty. One of Kigera's men laughed, saying aloud what Kigera was thinking.
Regardless, now was not the time to be staring at her fashion. The woman asked a question of him and he certainly wouldn't want to be rude to any lady.
You use such harsh words my lady. There has been no persecution here nor have we come to this city to unsettle your people.
Kigera paused as he noticed some of his men snickering and making inappropriate gestures towards the maidens of this mysterious woman. Normally, such things wouldn't bother him. Not in the least. But because of the nature of this questionable encounter, he couldn't be sure who this woman was or what possible influence she held, so doing anything to agitate her was completely out of the question. Unfortunately for his men, that meant no flirting.
Settle down. Kigera said in a low and controlled voice. His face showed no anger nor did his body. But his men knew how serious to take his words. They had seen how much of a devil he could be when he was angered.
As I was saying, we didn't come here with the intention of disturbing any of the residents. If we have, I do humbly apologize both for my men and myself for not being able to prevent such a action.
His head bowed low, silently cursing not knowing who this person was. She could be the mere wife of a fish merchant for all he knew.
Raising his head back up, a grin formed on his face however. It would be simple to tell if she was anybody of a decent background. A simple question of philosophy would suffice.
Despite my apology, I do disagree with one part of your statement. Why should that man be considered a innocent? Do such virtuous beings even exist? If so, I haven't met them yet.......
Kigera's eyes suddenly grew big as he jerked his hand upwards to cover his mouth as a fit of painful sounding coughs overtook him. From the nervous looks of the men that surrounded him both pity and fear could be seen in their eyes. As if they were holding their breathes, waiting, watching, hoping this wouldn't be the day their lord would be taken from them. Well all except Lu Len who held out a cloth for him to grab with a blank expression.
Wiping the blood from his mouth that the coughing had caused, he re-faced the woman and bowed his head once again.
Please forgive this sickly man. I unfortunately cannot control when these attacks come nor is there anything I can do to stop them. My karma neh?
He forced a smile and continued So tell me. Why have you truly come to approach me. Surely such a small, minor incident wouldn't peek the interest of such a.....refined looking person as yourself.
Maybe she realized, maybe she didn't but Kigera had indeed turned her question around. Instead of stating his purpose of why he came to Xin Ye, he instead asked her the purpose of why she approached him. It was only natural though. Why should he share such a personal information with a stranger? Especially one hid even her own face.

"Do you not view the being before you as virtuous?" A slight giggle escaped her lips as the veilled Lady Huang stood forward, the maids behind her remained stood as they were; knowning full well that their mistress could handle herself in any eventuality. Taking a breath, the eyes observed the group, especially the one that mentioned her own appearance. It entertained her, something that many were void of but those who knew her could view the beauty behind the screen. Closening once again, the Lady Huang turned her attention upon the lead, who seemed to question the innocence of a mere farmer... "Do you not view that common farmer as innocent? Aiding your wishing he did, yet the intimidation you placed before him changed his disposition.."
The Lady Huang was going to have her own fun, they seemed alien from the happenings of Xinye and the teasing was easily done when they seemed to know nothing of the woman before them. With a glance, the veiled woman searched their troupe to observe those with mouths who could offend; it seemed all... "I pray you do not seek rudeness, but I am the Lady Huang. A woman whose mind aids the leige of this city.. Yet, I fear that your presence is most melancholy. What truly brings you to this vacinity?" The Lady Huang had noticed that he had avoided the question of his presnece before, something that he would not be able to ignore for long..she wished to know why they were here..perhaps sent by another feudal lord to plot against? Or even someone who wished to cause touble, then be payed a large sum to halt their actions. Not if the lady Huang could aid it, this city had become a new home fore her...anyone to ruin this self-created haven were truly mistaken to pass her...

As the woman spoke once more, he once again despised the veil she was wearing. Being unable to read her facial expression had put him at a great disadvantage in this conversation. Was his words amusing her or displeasing her?
If my eyes could look upon your face.....perhaps I could judge if you were virtuous or not? Kigera said with a innocent but slightly mischievous smile.
His eyebrow raised however, when she took a few steps closer to him, wondering where such a delicate looking person got such courage from. Did she not fear the tough looking warriors that surrounded Kigera? Or better yet, the tough looking warriors who had lust strong in their eyes as they stared upon her with a fixed gaze. Truly, a interesting person this woman was.
I think you have misunderstood something my lady. If I had not spoke of a reward or had my robe not have been made of the finest silk to prove I could pay it, I am sure that man would have fled from me outright. Wouldn't have helped me in the least. After all, it is easy to judge people solely by their appearances. Such as how you view that common man as innoncent and how you view us......as trouble seekers?
When the woman fianlly introduced herself as Lady Huang, Kigera's mind still couldn't figure out who she was but he knew one of his people did at least. His eyes turned to Hu Ren, who immediately approached him and elaborated to him in full detail who this woman was. Kigera's response. A frown. Realizing he was making such a face, he quickly raised the sleeve of his arm to cover his mouth and faked a few coughs.
Please excuse me once again for the interruption. So your name is Lady Huang? It is an honor to the meet the wife of the.....sleeping dragon. Kigera said while slamming his fist into his palm and bowing his head once again. In actuality, he despised the sleeping dragon. Despised his fame, despised the way people compared him to the heroes of old. If there was one person Kigera wanted to prove he was more intellectual then, it was certainly this man. The sleeping dragon. That accursed Zhuge Liang.
He swallowed his pride and honor, knowing such things only led to unnecessary deaths anyway, and addressed her other question.
I have come to this city to seek employment with your liege. Lord Liu Bei. I heard he wishes to restore the Han. That is my ambition as well. Kigera said with a smile, knowing full well that it really wasn't his ambition. He could could care less about the Han......

As an eyebrow raised, the Lady Huang could tell this was not quite as she first percieved and that the group of rabble before her was quite intriguing indeed. Not only could they have the strength, but it seemed their leadership was one of worth and could it be a quick wit that could aid any source he wished to yield to. Taking a breath the young woman looked to her entourage and gave them a small inclination of the head, that was followed by a small gesture of the hand. The veil was becoming tiresome, even though she had enjoyed it the Lady Huang knew the majority knew of her appearance...it was only so far she could hold the rumours of her ugliness alive, after all..she had become to lothe it. Swiftly, as if a well organised unit, the women crowded round the Lady Huang and began their delicate work of removing the items of clothing of annoyance; making sure that nothing was tarnished or damaged in the process. "Indeed you make quite the argument, to this I apologise for my misgivings..for you see, within our realm beings judge upon apperance more and more; thus those who seem trouble, are ultimately placed into the frame of causing trouble."Her voice was light and it seemed, though some of her troupe feared that they would indeed cause harm to anyone percieved as weaker than they, the young woman was quite the opposite. A calm demeanour and confident mannerisms. Soon the entourage of maids returned to the diamond formation having the items of clothing in hand, the hat was removed and with it the veil; which revealed a most natural beauty..no need for the white powders and rouge upon the cheeks..the so called ugly wife of Zhuge Liang a mere rouse and one that was not quite true. However, the work of the maids had completely transformed the ensemble that Lady Huang first appeared in. The flaps that surrounded the belt were loosened and taken down to form a dress, the sleeved untied and allowed to hang low. The patterning too had changed somewhat, with the appearance of white embroidered peonies and a phoenix motif. Lady Huang's hair was brought down and placed in a nondescript clip; thus, forming the image of the Sleeping Dragon's wife..as all knew her to be. A swift change, a small invention of the young woman's mind and one that worked quite well..though timing and organisation was key. "As you seem quite the reasonable being, I shall place to you no fabrications to hide myself; no longer do I sense that you could be a rogue of this fair city." A slight chuckle and teasing smile appeared, there was something deep in this Mercenary... He had made some unsavory facial expressions and was quick to hide them, all in the mention of her husband; the resentment for this man was becoming rife..one that she too had understood for the growing months...Another gesture was made, this one quite different from the last..with a surprised look of the entourage they formed up, bowed and then took their leave in the direction that they had arrived in. The Lady Huang could see no true danger from the group before her, thus felt they were not needed; to much of their displeasure. "Indeed custom to refer to me as the wife of a man whose name is infamous. Yet, could it not be that I have my own merits? He..." A glance away, the 'he' clearly refering to Zhuge Liang.. "...is the husband of the Lady Huang." There was clear tension, so many years of being forced into the shadows when all that he did, all his namesakes, originated from her. "It is believed that though inferior, the woman is mistress of the man; without the wife, a husband could be merely useless.." Another playful giggled as the eyes returned to the Mercenary, hearing of the desire to 'restore the Han' was quite different..though something she continually heard, a futile effort and not the best path to begin on. All could see it's favour was dwindling and its inevitable death was just around the corner, the time they had found themselves in called for a new..wiping the slate clean was what the people really needed. "So you wish to aid our Lord? Quite interesting, why seek a man whose character is much softer than of the other feudal Lords?" Closening again, the breeze lifted the scent of the Lady Huang, a sweet intoxication of Spring that was a delightful mixture designed especially for her...and created by her.. "Do you wish to become the Huang Zu of the Lord Liu Biao? Set your foundation in order to manipulate?" It was another accusation, but the clear tone was nonchalant and was quite playful; they seemed to be ones that could perhaps understand such a tone and respond with something most entertaining. "I apologise for such insolence, I am yet to learn your names. I hope it is not rude of me to inquire this?" Slowly, and with an elegant precision, the Lady Huang bowed to the group; not singling one out from this salutation of respect, one that was a little lower than those of no rank and perhaps an undesirable lifestyle.

(sorry for the long post.......I got bored at work >.>)
Kigera was surprised that his simple joke had actually inspired her to remove the veil that had hidden her face. As her maidens surrounded her and begun removing some of her attire, Kigera gave a look to his men that signalled that all had better be on their best behavior, no matter how unattractive she was rumored to be.
From the moment he learned that she was the wife of his sworn rival, he had decided that her friendship was something to be highly valued and he would do nothing to risk her anger. If she wasn't as cunning as her husband, perhaps he could slyly get some of the sleeping dragon's secrets out of her. Her apology distracted his thoughts and brought him back to reality.
There is no need to apologize for any misgivings. Your orginal opinion was indeed correct. We are indeed trouble seekers and we do indeed go to wherever there is danger. There was a laugh in his voice as he said it. Still observing the maidens as they continued to undress Lady Huang, he continued It's just for once, we didn't come here with those actual intentions. I was only giving you a hard time about judging our appearences just for fun. My apologies for my ill humor
When the maidens finally pried themselves away from Lady Huang, you could hear several gasps and whistles from Kigera's troop, despite the order he had given them to remain silent. But he could not blame them. He was having trouble himself keeping his eyes above her neck area, as beckoning as her form seemed to lure his gaze. He did however give a quick look in Hu Ren's direction, who had misinformed him and told him that this woman was supposed to be hideous. Heavens, that was certainly a lie. Not to menion, he now had another reason to dislike Zhuge Liang.
I am honoured that you feel a little more comfortable around me and my men. Might I also say that the rumors do you no justice Lady Huang. You are indeed a rare flower to behold.
When Lady Huang gave a signal for her guards to leave, Kigera felt slightly uncomfortable by it. Not that he didn't trust his men but more for her reputation sake. Being seen alone with rogues was something he was sure would encourage ill rumors about her and since he didn't consider her enemy, he saw no need to drag her name through the mud.
Turning to Hu Ren he spoke Continue on to the inn without me. See to it that the men wait at least until tomorrow to start raiding the taverns. Let the events from today settle a little neh?
His second in command nodded and to their great dissapointment, the men of Kigera begun to sulk away. Although several did look over their shoulders to still stare at the form of Lady Huang who seemed to have spellbounded his troops. The one person who didn't leave just yet was Lu Len, who looked upon the woman with displeasure, not liking the superior way the woman carried herself. Before she left, she said aloud
Try to remeber she's a married woman Kigera. Although I'm not sure if that's sto..
GOODBYE LEN. Kigera said for the first time showing a obvious look of displeasure. He swore she did things to irrate him on purpose.
Once it was just the two of them, Kigera listened to her words with a unreadable expression although his mind did pick apart every sentence she said.
I would not say that your husband name is infamous. Though Kigera wished it had been. You do have a point though. It could be turned the other way around. He being the husband of Lady Huang that is. But I'm afraid in order for that to happen......your merits would have to outshine your husband's. Is that the case?
For the first time, Kigera asked himself. What made Zhuge Liang pick this woman as his wife? It had to be more then just her looks? From the words she'd spoken so far, there was certainly a fair knowledge in her head.
When the subject of serving Liu Bei came up, Kigera inwardly groaned. Playing the noble and virtious saint was such a tiring role. But, he might as well get used to it now. Especially if he really did plan on serving the scion of Liu.
I would not say his character is soft. There is no shame in beliving in honor and justice and serving the will of the people. In fact, I would say because of those reasons, he is the best choice of lord to serve. Was it not wrong doings against the people, that even allowed for the Yellow Turban rebellion in the first place?
As she made a sly reference to Huang Zu, he caught smell of peciular scent. Hard to say what it was but the obvious way his nose kept sniffing, made it no secret he was trying to determine the source. He waved off her apology nonetheless and responded Your blunt words show me you hold me in great regard. I can't say that it doesn't please me. His smile showed his geiune honesty.
But no, I would not liken myself to Huang Zu although I admit, I do appreciate his cunning. Such men, no matter their personal character, can still be put to good use. However, if I was to compare myself to someone, it would be Lord Huangfu Song if it's not too arrogant of me to say. For any unfairness, I would willingly expose my own neck to see that it is properly judged.
Kigera then made a bow and said My apologies for being rude and not introducing myself right away. My name is Kigera Katasa, the son of the Han general Sumata. The men whom you just saw were my Di Avengers. People who have followed me all across the lands since I first struck out in Wu Du.

Watching as the group took their orders to advance further into the city, there was one soul being who hesitated; the woman whose mouth could clearly be seen to have some dislike for the Lady Huang..perhaps jealousy, as the eye was not placed upon herself this day; was there a flame for the lead? With a delicate giggle the thought was brushed from the shoulder and attention placed back to the man who remained, the name was quite foreign to her and this land; though having lineage who served the Han was quite a merit in itself..thus, they must now be inhabitants of this realm. It was no news to her, the young woman knew of the beauty she possessed and, though not like others to flaunt for her own good, the modesty would always be present. The right hand was softly brought to the lips and eyes diverted from Kigera as small flush of pink appeared upon the cheeks. "Such compliments Master Kigera, I must thank the Heavens for your kindness.." A stock phrase, taught by mothers to their daughters in order to seem much more innocent than they could be. However, the disposition was changed swiftly and the seriousness returned; the coy eyes glanced over the body of Kigera observing the weaknesses and strengths he could possibly have. "It seems my plan had not only worked, but reached the corners of our realm..for you see, during the years of blossoming I had my maids and father plant such seeds of my hideous appearance; thus allowing my mind to be acknowledged rather than the remnance of my assets..."
It was a form of venus fly trap to gain such a husband as Zhuge Liang, for it was not the woman who searched the Dragon's cove but the other way; this time, it was the Dragon who wished to seek the Phoenix. As the eyes glazed over Kigera the Lady Huang could not help chuckle at the tone that her husband's name was spoken, not to mention the questioning of her own merits..oh how this realm would soon find out the truth, perhaps this man could aid her?.. "Of course, I am but a mere flower who yields to the husband? Surely my merits are simply as a mother and wife of the Sleeping Dragon; who could match his intellect?" Another giggle, though this time the Lady Huang began to move around Kigera, circling as a vulture would do the drying carcus within the sun. Taking a breath, the growing resentment that the young woman had for her own husband, Zhuge Liang, was resonating from her eyes..an untold fire that wished to escape and burn the name of the man she kowtowed to years ago. "Where do you believe the source of his name comes from? Seek the shadows and the truth shall appear.." Closening to Kigera, the voice became a whisper and the proximity was something unseen by a married woman, especially to that of a male stranger..however, in Xinye the masses knew that Lady Huang's own virtue could never be tainted.. "You see, my husband is indeed quite the scholar, but he has no foundations without me. It is the Phoenix wife who has been the catalyst for his name..his ideas...his strategems...his very intellect. But, of course, the Phoenix must always allow the Dragon to take centre stage..."
The perfume was closer and the light breath could be felt upon the neck, there was no fear for the Lady Huang had been placed in worse situations; thus allowing the skin to appear delicate but it's endurance was high. Moving once more, she returned to the position she once was it was clear that this subject had been well thought of. It was interesting how the mind can formulate when the husband was absent for so long and by the fire within her now eyes, visible to Kigera, was that they both carried a dislike for the Sleeping Dragon. But, she was in an inferior place, though indeed true that she was the source of his wisdom, therefore the luck charm to his career, it was obvious that no one would believe her over the words of her husband. "However, timing is all I need..for the Phoenix is no longer weak, the claws sharpened and wings stronger; the flames of its tail shall not be extinguished this time.."
Another breath, the first impression of Lady Huang was the doting wife of pure innocent, when with a second glance was quite the cunning vixen. Hearing of his own evaluation of his character, it was quite something to compare oneself with Huangfu Song; but perhaps, this could be used to her own advantage.. He wished to seek sub-bordination with Liu Bei, no doubt to benefit himself and yet, the Lady Huang could have this Kigera as quite an ally. "Your comparison is quite the name, is it not? However, you seem to be one of a sturdy hand..perhaps quite correct in your own observation. I'm sure the Lord Liu could use your skills, but, what of your followers; could they be tamed for servitude to a being such as the Imperial Uncle?" It was a useless question, but one that she wished to see Kigera's response..would he fabricate or see an ally within the Lady Huang and speak the truth; for it was clear that temporarily their manners could be tamed, but it would not last for long...

After Lady Huang confessed that she was the one who spread the rumors of her appearence herself and the reasoning behind it as well, he started to respect her even more then he previously had. She would certainly be a most interesting tool if he could win over her loyalty. Her way of thinking was certainly worth the risk of trying. Even if she eventually would come to hate him, once she found out how ruthless and self-centered he really was.Well, that depended on if he even allowed her to see his true self which really wasn't likely. But she seemed like a person who could see through his acting, if he ever made the slightest mistake. He'd have to be careful around this woman....
When she started to circle around him, finally did Kigera's calm composure start to crack. Up until now, he thought he was dealing with a young innocent woman whom simply possessed a brilliant mind. Now....now....he wasn't sure? There was a certain coldness from her eyes that was alarmingly familiar. Eyes that spoke of hate, revenge, all forms of malice. Her eyes, had they looked that way the entire time? From the first time she lifted her veil? So...so destructive?
He couldn't remeber anymore. All his mind could concentrate on was her stare. The way her eyes bore into his as she circled him like a predator. Why did he ever think she was gentle? This too, he couldn't remeber.
As her breath touched his ears in the form of a whispered question, her words gave him a shocking revelation. This woman disliked her husband. Heavens, this woman despised the great Zhuge Liang. What a blessed discovery! His calm returned to him as did his mind. Her eyes were never this cold from the beginning. And she truly had been a most gentle flower in her behavior. This abrupt change didn't happen until his name was mentioned. The sleeping dragon. Bless this encounter!
He remained silent with a grin upon his face, as she continued to play this risky game in the streets. The closeness between them that is. The closeness between them them with complete disregard for who was around and what they could whisper about them. It both scared his mind and excited it at the same time. Knowing such a daring person existed besides him, and a woman at that too.
So without you, Lord Zhuge's legend cannot exist? Am I to understand that all of his famed works, ideals, strategies, they all come from you? His Phoenix? Kigera's face showed no disbelief in her words although his mind was a little skeptical of the ideal. Sure this woman was a genius, that much was obvious, her mind being on a plane above Zhuge Liang's, he wasn't quite so sure. Where was the proof?
If what you say is true, then I'm afraid I would have to disagree. Your merits are your merits. They can belong to no other nor should you allow it. If the center stage is what you wish, then take it. Do not be afraid because you are a woman. As he said these words, he rolled up his left arm sleeve and pointed to a scar on his left hand.
In my troop, all are equal. No matter your background, religion, beliefs, all are equal. Including women. This scar I'm pointing to is the mark I recieved from that woman who was here earlier. She is the only person to best me in combat but do you think I would try to hide it?
No. Instead, I made her one of my captains and she acts my bodyguard wherever I go. Do you think I feel any shame in it because she's a woman? I don't. Talent is talent, only a fool would try to suppress it out of envy or fear of going against public opinion.
When the subject of his men came up, Kigera laughed at her use of the word tame. No man could ever truly be tamed. Man's natural instinct is to stick to their own interests. Their own agenda. However, when it is you who influence what their interests are and what their desires are.....that's a whole different story.
My men are only loyal to me. My words are law. My wants are their wants. My will is their will. With that in mind, if Liu Bei can tame me.....then so shall my men be tame. For once, did Kigera's eyes lose their pleasantness and his expression started to mirror hers.

It seemed this very man who believed so worldy in his liberal mindset, was so ignorent to the truth before him of their very realm. When taken into marriage, there is a rarety that any woman can remane equal; for she was living proof of this unfortunate truth. When courting, Zhuge Liang was quite the gentlemen and one whose adoration so clear as the blue skies of Summer..but when the ceremonies had finished and the well-wishers vanished, it was the traditions of old that sweeped her entire world clean of the scene she once knew..all was foreign to her then. Taking a breath, the eyes showed the disagreement with all that he had spoken about womanhood..stating it to be so easy, of course to him it would; he was not banished to a world that was not his own. "Master Kigera, you speak so openly yet know nothing of our hidden turmoil; that woman who bested you is a comrade..no wife to you. Thus, you cannot view what world the wife lives in." Stepping forward, this was a subject close to heart and one she knew quite well..it had been the reason why working so hard was doubled by the weight of being mistress of the household; while being dominated by the three masters.. "..for a woman, when the ceremony is over your life is no longer yours. I shall guess when you deem a woman worthy of such luxury, you shall transform into the similar being as my husband. Now acknowledging, the next pushing into the shadows; spending eternaty always behind, never beside."
"Believe it to be so easy as you speak of? You must surely jest, for any woman within this realm to gain any form of recognition for her own doing is harder than you think.. Man raises the sword and is hailed as a hero, while the woman does the same and is branded the rogue daughter placing shame upon the ancestors. Even if the woman gains more success, the man shall always proceed further." Another step forward, the Phoenix's wings beginning to open and ready to take flight...in the direction of the poor Kigera who had sturd the mythical beast from its dwelling... "To some woman, death is the welcomed freedom from marriage. Man advances, while we are chained by traditions; to obey the father, the husband and the son. Carry the burdens with the heavy shackles upon every limb, then you shall feel our fate." Such truth and from a woman whose marriage was quite fresh in comparison to some matrimonies..
"But of course you would stand by the name of my husband, never to believe that the wife could surpass the husband; such liberal views you speak..without your mind following suite." The Sleeping Dragon had gained a name for being quite the creating inventor, one whose mind could formulate machines for any given situation; a topic most infuriating to the Lady Huang..who spent most of her nights searching the corners of the mind for such devices, while her husband slept early to rise early for fishing.. "You know of my husbands creations? Believe he toiled each night?.. Not so.. It was with this mind and these hands that his so called toys could come to reality, he merely played while I created. His life revolved around meditating, farming and fishing." A topic still fresh, the blood not being able to start the healing process..but the latter of the conversation was quite interesting to the Lady Huang. To tame the rogue group one would have to be able to influence the lead, how intriguing indeed..with such revelation the fires turned and stirred not in hostility but in intrigue.. There was a clear liking for Kigera forming within the young woman, and the vixen eyes were quite observant. A hard mind and strong prowess, perhaps the most favourable kind to have influence over.. "So one must tame Master Kigera to gain the key to influencing the group?"
With a nonchallant and detatched giggle, the Lady Huang raised an eyebrow as the playful tone escaped her lips. "Could the Tiger be tamed flame?..it would be a shame.." Closening as before to Kigera, the Lady Huang lowered her voice to a whisper once more so that only he could hear; the tone softened but still had the tease of a woman who could view many a fate. "..for such a beast to be consumed by the fires of the Phoenix tail..." It implied both parties, that of Kigera as the Tiger and Lady Huang as the Phoenix..with another coy giggle, the frame of the young woman moved round the man and continued away from him. Her direction was to the tavern that Kigera's men had been ordered to find, with clear intentions that she wished him to follow her...to follow the flaming Phoenix tail.... Yet would a man such as Kigera enter the lair of such a woman as the Lady Huang?...

Kigera listened to her words with a smile, despite the obvious difference of opinion that they shared. He was sure she probably thought of him now as naive and not facing reality, but what he spoke was the truth. Just because he was looking into the room of womanhood through a window instead of being in it, didn't change that.
Whether she's a comrade, wife, mistress, it makes no difference. If one can be used, I will use them. And I will let their talents shine. So when I decided to marry, trust that my wife would never be pushed into the shadows nor behind me. I have enough followers for that, what I don't have is enough equals, pardon the arrogance.
There was a mischief in his grin when he said the latter but the seriousness of his tone showed that he meant what he said.Yes, it really is that easy Lady Huang. If you want something, go after it. No matter what it takes. That is how a man thinks. If you plan to surpass a man, remeber those words and embrace them. To beat a man you must think like one first after all.
His eyes narrowed as he studied the woman before him. There truly was a lot of pent up anger inside this woman. A lot of frustration, hate. It was obvious that she desired fame and to be recognized on the same platform as a man. But he wondered, did she have the drive for it?
I will concede to your one point though. This is a man's world. No matter how much success a woman does, a man will always be considered superior. But tradition can be changed. Public opinion can be changed. All it takes is one person. Can you not be she?
As Lady Huang began to speak ill of her husband, Kigera had to try his best not to laugh out loud. Such priceless information she was giving him on his rival and he'd yet to even offer her a thing! Hell, it was tempting to not spread rumors of Zhuge's false claims himself. Especially since he knew it would ruin the man's reputation and put Kigera in a position to challenge his authority in Shu.
However, he was displeased that she was under the impression that he sided with her husband and his views. After Lu Len had defeated him in combat, he knew without a doubt a woman could match a man in all aspects. If they applied themselves that is and if they constantly trained their abilities to exhaustion like Len had done.
I truly am sorry that your life has been treated in such a way. But from my travels, I have noticed one thing. The most beautiful flower is one that has withstood both rain and snow. I have faith that you will break the chains that bind you and fly above the clouds.
When the subject of her husband finally turned into the subject of him and his men, Kigera's face remained expressionless as she once again begin to close the distance between the two. He wasn't sure if she was trying to seduce him or was simply testing the strength of his character. To see how easily he could be lured. Or third, this was simply for her own amusement. Fortunately, as tempting as it was to flirt, he focused his whole concentration on her words and not the vision of her body and the sweet aroma that it carried about it.
Could he be tamed? Certainly not by Liu Bei or any other lord living. His ambition was too great and his will too strong. Fame was the only thing he'd pleged loyalty to, no one or nothing else mattered. Or was this young woman saying she could? Bind him to her will. A amusing and ridiculous ideal. However, if this woman wanted to play games, then he was perfectly willing to play them. After all, it was he who wanted to tame her.
And so he followed behind her, a smile on his face, a certain arrogance in his walk. He was sure the heaven's favored him. What else could explain such a fateful encounter? Greatness was his karma

As the walk continued, there was something in the back of the Lady Huang's mind that refused to disperse..it was his choice of words to the latter, they seemed quite lyrical and showed substance of a formal education; yet, Kigera's way of life argued against such high level of eloquence. She could not deny that it hit her with some force, that though strangers he could see the true phoenix wishing to gain the right wind underneath the wings, thrusting itself above the clouds to be viewed and worshipped.. The light steps slowed their pace and the smile turned to a soft giggle, there must have been a reason why she was drawn to him. Out of all within Xinye, especially those with some form of jurisdiction, it was the Lady Huang to greet him and now they had gained intelligence of each other that placed them on certain balanced ground. "Your words are quite touching, there is traces of an education close to aristocratic influences; could you be the fabled noble's son who wishes to be free from the clutches of luxury?" It was a jest, but there seemed to be some form behind it..a question within a mere pleasantry. For another similarity would have been shared, as it could be said Lady Huang too came from a quite privileged background.
From the sleeve snapped a small folding fan, the heat was not at its height but a young woman could not be denied the enjoyment of the gentile breeze upon their cheek. It's design was one of Huang's favourite, also one of her own, delicately painted peony flowers with the phoenix taking flight over them; quite symbolic to the handler. With smooth strokes the waves of breeze was comforting and it held the mystique of the intentions that this young woman had, it was not sure whether there was any form of trust to rely her desires..or what were left of them, but, she could take some comfort in their friendship perhaps. "I know many seek sub-bordination under one of the feudal lords, but, have you ever desired this power for yourself? After all, you are a leader of a small band of rogues; why not widen your grasp and take hold of some territory?" To be trusted with land would be something quite desirable and prove to the populace that she was far more competent than her husband, though on his return the powers of superiority would most likely instantly favour him over her.. The figure halted and her eyes once again met Kigera's, the fan hiding some of the facial features so that he could not look anywhere else than the hazel coloured gems. It was as the snake to the prey, but there was a gentleness about them that wished aid in a time such as this; she had the mind, all she needed was the physical strength to guide the schemes..

As they walked, Kigera remained silent for awhile, noting that she appeared to be in some sort of thought. He wasn't sure of the cause but he at least knew his words had left some sort off of favorable expression upon the woman. Not from any reaction she had given but simply such was the strength of his arrogance and confidence.
Her joke caused him to laugh and reflect on his own upbringing. A life of luxury he had lived indeed. The finest clothes, the best food, as many servants as he wanted, a girl for every night of the week, yes indeed, a life of luxury he had liven. Of course....such things didn't come for free. When dealing with his father, nothing ever did. There was no pleasure without pain first.
Yes, you would not be wrong to make that assumption about me. I do come from a wealthy family and my education was well taught. However, I am no spoiled rich child, bored from his easy and nonchalant life, looking for adventure. There was a grin on Kigera's face as he said the latter, a silent acknowledgement to her silent question.
As she pulled out her fan, he eyed the device and could appreciate it's craftsmanship. He wondered if she herself created it from the symbology of the flying Phoenix that was painted upon it. All the more reason why his earlier comment might have crept into her thoughts. However, the issue of her fan quickly escaped his mind as Lady Huang decided to suddenly play hard ball. That is, take the conversation to a dangerous level.
Desired power for myself? Seek to own my own land? Kigera repeated her question, silently trying to buy time for his brain to think. He definitely didn't feel comfortable sharing his "true" ambitions with her, for that luxury was one that could be quite costly in the future. Who's to say she couldn't turn his words against him, should she ever decide to begrudge him? Man oh man, this certainly was a dilemma.
After walking for at least a minute in silence, he finally answered her.
I would be lying if I said I didn't seek power. For what man doesn't desire to dominate over others, whether for benevolent or malevolent reasons. And I would be lying if I didn't say I desired my own territory, but once again, this is merely human nature.
Kigera felt pleased with his ambiguous answer. He answered her questions truthfully and yet at the same time, he didn't answer the question she was really asking. If she wanted to know that answer, he'd have to be sure that she was safe to trust. And the way she slyly hid her face, showing only the piercing gaze of her eyes, he felt like he was messing with an inferno......

As the assumption of Kigera's past was correct, the Lady Huang noticed that his answers to her question was neutral and if one would seek any hidden meaning..the path would come to a cul-de-sac. A shrewd and cunning disposition, she would give him but one that was searching something too. Both were suspicious of the other, not knowing if the other was trustworthy for their own cause; with certain pieces of information they could discredit and bring the downfall of the other..rumour may seem the path of unrighteousness, but it could always be a useful tool turned to poison another's career and integrity. Hiding behind the fan, the gaze refused to trail from Kigera wishing to tempt an opinion which tone was not either one or the other..but a hardened viewpoint that would present to the Lady Huang an idea of his true intentions. "I must agree with your statement, that all within our realm dreams of a certain amount of power; whether political or more physical, such as land." The fan was flicked shut, the once innocent smile was transformed into something of the vixen spirit...messing around was no longer present, for Lady Huang demanded to know what was the the truth behind this new guest. "However, we are not speaking of others, but of yourself. The lands you desire to one day have, are they parts of Lord Liu's jurisdiction, or perhaps another's?"
The question was much more specifice and one that she would hope a neutral responce would not follow, the eyes glistened and the step closened with the fan pointing straight to Kigera. From the petal-soft lips came a more confident tone, much deeper than before and one that was on par with a certain business arrangement. "I see the caution in your eyes, believing that I could use my influence one day. I am no woman of legend, to use relations as and when I desire something.." It was as if Kigera had outwardly accused her of such deeds, but the floor needed to be created and Lady Huang had taken daliance around the subject. All was timing and this was the perfect execution, to form the friendship between beings of opposite ends. "As you can view my physique is not of strength, thus a woman such as myself whose desires are above the Heavens shall always be at whim for the strong.." Again the fan was snapped open and the gentle wafts created to breeze the face. "I am sure yourself has none of devouted intelligence, hence relying on brawn to escape the difficult situations. Do not view to find things you cannot see within me, for we both know that a friendship can further things far beyond than playing alone.."
She was not showing qualities of a sycophant, nor traits of a woman who could easily turn cheek..but one who desired her own path and a route to the individual success which will gain merit for things she had done; not through what her husband had achieved. From the eyes, Kigera would see the desire that Lady Huang had for him..through his collective strength she could solidify her foundations and perhaps propell herself forward. In return a form of immunity no doubt and the intelligence that Lady Huang knew could be quite useful, not to mention anything that this man desire; within reason. "I am sure you are aware that many form partnerships, but they can easily turn sour. This is what we do not desire, for we can both harm each other, in ways most detrimental. Now, what I wish for is a certain friendship.." It was a good day indeed, to gain an ally was something Lady Huang needed and the confidence that shimmered was signs of the Phoenix finally pushing away the chains..soon to take flight. The fan was brought before the face again, the burning eyes focusing upon Kigera and his next move; what Lady Huang had cleverly done was placed him on a pedastal...if he made a rebuttle and spread rumour, it would not harm the Lady Huang for such a reputation she had gained could be quite difficult to tarnish..but the tongue turned against himself, as a guest with the looks of bandits, was quite compelling in favour of what the Lady Huang would spout. But, it was not a malice suggestion as if he was suspicious all he had to do was focus upon the glistening eyes to find the trust; not only was it an honest proposal but one that had reason behind it...

At the closing of her fan, Kigera blinked at the abrupt action and tried to hide his shock at the sudden directness of her words. If there had been any hope in keeping their “game” going, she certainly had just crushed it. Another ambigious answer wouldn’t get him out of this one. Her words had been to straight to the point. Moreso then he wished.
I…I….
His mind still wouldn’t let him give her a response. It was too dangerous. Too risky. Entirely too dangerous and unnecessarily risky. Who’s to say she wasn’t playing him and he was simply playing into the hands of the Sleeping Dragon. The man was known for his unmatched cunning…..
As if she could read his mind, she directed her fan towards him and voiced the very fears he had just been thinking of her. To use her status to crush him. Or to manipulate. Or whatever other type of situation he would be forced to accept because of the carelessness she was trying to suggest.
His sudden paranoia of her, actually worsened as she attempted to persuade him that she was a person not to be feared. “Always at the whim for the strong" she had said. From his encounter with her so far, he seriously doubted if that was the case.
But as she continued to speak, he started to get more comfortable with her words. More relaxed. The “why” was simple. He finally figured out that she was desperate. Desperate for the chance to prove herself in a male dominated society. That was why she had taken their conversation this far, without regard for the consequences. This woman was putting everything on the line for her dreams. The knowledge of that fact, made him that more at ease about everything. What was there to worry about now? He knew what she wanted. He knew that she needed him to get it. Now he knew he could eventually manipulate her. Kigera could answer her in earnest now.
Your words have moved me Lady Huang. Very well, you want to know what it is I desire? The truth is, I would own the world if I was given the chance. Unforunately, that is not my fate and so I would settle for the man who could. I believe that lucky man to be Lord Liu and as long as he would continue to show that potential, I would never stray from his side. So I don’t desire to be a lord.
Rather, I would aspire to take your husband’s place in the realm. To be the sword of Lord Liu and the man for all ages to remember, as the one who guided him to the unification of the land. That is what I desire. All my praise I had given for your husband were lies. You talk of him as if he was your enemy. Well he for certain, I do consider one of mine.
So if you can accept these words and not be shook by them……..consider me your partner. Whatever it is you desire in the kingdom, I would try my utmost to try to help you achieve it. And whatever I want……I trust you would do the same. Consider my bluntness, proof of my trust in you and the high esteem that I hold you in. Only for you, will I not curb my tongue.
