"The only rule of war is that there are no rules."
- Li Wang, in a lecture to one of his captains about ethics in war.
Name: Li Wang "Yuàn-líng" (Wraith)
Age: 32
Gender: Male
Style: Original
Residence: Jian Ye
Personality: Li Wang is the type who believes that sarcasm is as deadly as any blade, but chooses not to use it unless it is necesary. He strives to be a good person, but nine times out of ten he is the one who has to deal with the morally gray operations often conducted by the army. He will lead the charge and lead it well, and he also knows when not to attack. He does not tolerate nonsense from his soldiers, which is probably why his unit usually has the highest survival rate on the field. Lately, his success (as well as the fulfillment of his vengeance on Chen Wu) has awakened an ambition he did not know existed in him, now that he's achieved the highest rank possible without killing or being promoted over his own superiors (he still has ranks he may attain, but as far as the actual command structure goes, he is already as far as he can go). His ambition for the moment is sated by the knowledge that he will eventually succeed Grand Commander Huang Gai, but unconsciously his greatest desire is to become Sun Ce's right hand, a position which is generally known to be possessed by Zhou Yu, whom Li already despises for his personality and Wu's regard for the man as the worlds greatest tactical genius. Li knows that Zhuge Kong-Ming "The Sleeping Dragon" (or perhaps his wife, The Lady Huang Yueying) is a more able strategist, and someone amongst Cao Mengde's officers (if it was not Cao himself) was responsible for the man's victory at Wan (the only reason it took so many lives was because of the enemy strategist, Jia Xu). Lu Feng-xian to the North had to have a good strategist to remain alive thus far, and either Li Jue or Guo Si had to have a sound tactician to utterly wipe out Ma Teng. All Zhou Yu had done so far was to defect from Liu Yong and deliver Jian Ye's supply base to the Wu forces in one campaign, hardly enough to be rated a tactical genius. Li, on the other hand, had proposed the strategy that won the Wu forces their namesake district and Hui Ji to the south, and it was he who thought of sending General Zhao Fai to win the defection of Chai Sang. All of this has accumulated into Li's belief that he really is the best officer Wu has (though he does respect each officer's abilities and will not openly say this).
Appearance: Li Wang is 6 feet tall and has become muscular through years of combat. He has jade green eyes, and has thin lips and a thin mustache.
Apparel/Armour: Li Wang's garb (when not in combat) is simple, usually consisting of a simple orange tunic and trousers with a black sash and shoes. When in battle though (or if away from or with out a home) he wears a full suit of leather armor, with armored plates over his chest, back, shins, thighs, forearms, and biceps (pretty much everywhere except his joints). His armor is lacquered red, and his black plumed helmet is embossed with images of tigers. He also wears a necklace of tiger claws.
Weapon(s):
- Shortsword (level 1) "Zérèn" (or Duty)
This shortsword has been with Li Wang since his days as a junior officer in Liu Yong's forces. With it he has slain hundreds of men. He wears it strapped to his left thigh, both as a reminder of his beginnings and as an emergency weapon should he ever find himself disarmed. - Dual Swords (level 3) "Zhǎo de yuàn líng" (or Claws of the Wraith)
These were purchased when Li Wang realized he preferred to fight with two weapons at once. These are his preferred dueling weapons, though if he does not want to risk closing with opponents he will use his Crescent Spear as long as possible. His blades have been socketed into hilts which curve out and over his fist in a letter C, allowing the mounted blades to point outwards along his wrist. This allows him to literally wield the blades as extensions of his arms (i.e. claws). As a result of this setup he has developed strong wrists to provide the extra force needed for parries. (These are lashed to his chest) - Crescent Spear (level 4) "Xuè de bàofù" (or Blood's Revenge)
This was purchased for the sole purpose of unhorsing Chen Wu (the Shanyue officer who slew his cousin in a past campaign), either by spearing the horse, slashing it's legs or hooking the man. It is useful against mounted opponents and is utilized as Li's main weapon. Li Wang mainly uses it during large battles, preferring to switch to his twin blades when dueling. - Horse
A horse is a weapon too!
History: Li Wang was born in Jian Ye to the owners of a small brothel. Needless to say, Li never had any appetite left unsatisfied. With the stamina incurred from such a life, Li decided that it would be best to learn how to fight should disaster ever reach Jian Ye.
At the age of 16, Li picked up a short sword for the first time, taking lessons from the bouncers at his parent's brothel until he was judged proficient enough to help out with the work. Alas, one was slain in a scrap with a soldier, and Li was placed into the job by his parents.
Two years later, his father passed away after suffering from food poisoning, and Li found himself in possession of the brothel. Rather than manage the place himself, he decided to leave one of the women in charge and join the army. After a year and a disastrous campaign in which he earned the title of Wraith, he decided that his talents and leadership abilities weren't being fully utilized and decided to desert. Recently, he has been training with a sword master in Nanman and has been deemed worthy of the title of blade master. He joined Sun Ce's forces just in time for the campaign to Jian Ye in 198. Since then, Li has distinguished himself from most of his fellow officers, rising all the way to Commander General (a rank at which only his liege, Sun Ce, Grand Commander Huang Gai and Grand Strategist Zhou Yu are superior to him).
Current Information: Li Wang is currently the Prefect of Chai Sang. He was appointed to the post by the Marquis Sun Ce upon the defection of the city from Liu Biao. He is currently trying to calm the people from the sudden change while also trying to secure his two borders against the ineveitable attack by Huang Zu. (To be updated at author's whim.)
