It had been a hard few week. Leaving the desert to come to a land under the rule of someone that was not her father was such a task to adjust to. The people of XinYe were kind and the other officers had been very welcoming, but it was nothing like home.
No longer was she seen as the daughter of the powerful Ma Teng, but she was a simple woman of war. Yes, she would no longer be forced to watch the battle from afar for now she was not under the rule of her father. Being coddled all her life and the only daughter had its perks, but she did not want to be treated like a child anymore and to be seen as some equally as capable of protecting herself in battle was a blessing. Still, her heart was left home in the sanctuary of the desert and she would be here in a foreign fighting under the banner of a new lord.
It was a small city, especially in comparison to Wu Wei, but something about it’s aura was calming to her and while the climate was different… it still reminded her faintly of home. The people were kind, their smiles to her invoked a smile of her own and she found herself in a better mood despite being close to feeling homesick.
Her mind went back to the events the occurred between her father and brother. Would he forgive them? Would Ma Chao ever return home? She doubted it, and somehow… Ma Yunlu could see this place as becoming her new permanent home. Yes, her family was nowhere here, but after what had happened, she could not return home without her brother. Still, she would like to visit her family, see the other brothers that she dearly loved and perhaps sit down and have a talk with her father. Ma Yunlu shook her head sadly, that would not be occurring anytime soon.
After what felt like hours of aimless walking, she finally decided to settle down near the Baorang forest. Ma Yunlu, coming from a land of sand, found this place to be the most beautiful. The stretch of forest these people had was so comforting, like a blanket green that she could seek solace in. Wu Wei was such a stark contrast to this place, it was beautiful in it’s on way, but this change to her left her in sheer amazement. Ma Yunlu wondered if the people understood how fortunate they were to have such beauty. Did they notice it? Or did they take it for granted?
Leaning back against a tree, she crossed her legs and shut her eyes, the breeze here a gentle song that tousled her hair. It was a different breeze, it had an earthier scent to it, very different in comparison to the scent back home. Everything here was so different… and she was going to make the most of it all.

Such a journey from Xiangyang to Xinye was something quite daunting to many, even the thought of crossing the unpredictable waters of the Changjiang mere nausiating. However, it was an important transition to make when wishing to leave an undesirable life behind one's back, to place water between present and past was a matter that not many could take comfort in. Leaving the husk remains of a wife whose life became more and more empty, as the winds carried their lives smoothly the loving eyes saw nothing of desire and could only find the relaxation of embracing their child. To feel the undying love of the first born was something that could never be replaced, something that could never be surpassed by anyone; not even the husband, who was seen as the woman's newly established 'heaven'...however, it had transformed into the woman's personal 'hell'...
The horse was tired and it's resolve not quite up to that of the Lady Huang's, whose mind was a drift from the inhabitants of Xinye. Indeed a small city, but it was a grand start for the future and could become the stronghold of the destiny that she had to gain. Dismounting, the feet would take the part of transportation for the Lady Huang could not place torture further onto her beastly companion. Trusted with a nearby tavern, the barkeep placed to promise the finest care for the thoroughbred; a subtle warning was made that the scorn of this very woman would not only bring the Tavern to its foundations..but with it the Heavens he would shortly be seeing lest anything happened to the horse. The black veil remained across the Lady Huang's face, it did not seem welcoming nor intimidating but a necessary for the upkeep of such rumours that were spread so many years ago. It may have circulated that the wife of the infamous Intellectual, Zhuge Liang, had arrived in their small city; a matter that Lady Huang attempted to ignore..for repetition of the very phrase she detested would not be the great start to her new life...
Though seen as short, a mere daliance across the waters, the traditional attire of Xinye differed somewhat from that of her own home; it was a matter that fascinated Lady Huang..their realm large, yet so diverse in not only appearances but also cultures. To which one caught the woman's eye instantly, further up the road a woman whose prowess could be known by a mere glance; the strength of the Mountains and possible mind of the Sages who take to the highest peaks to be closer to the Heavens. The Lady Huang could tell this woman was also foreign to these lands, however, she was not a Southerner as she was..from the stories she had read, Lady Huang gathered that this warrioress could be from the famed terrain of the most Northern regions of the realm. But, what she did not know was, in fact this woman sitting below a tree was a warrioress of great potential, whose origins come from a lineage of cavalry genius..
"I hope you do not find my intrusion insolent, yet, I could not help but become curious of your Northern attire. Dare I suggest Qiang heritage within your veins?" Such a voice was touched by the Heavens, its tones so soft and yet held confidence and authoritarian respect within the core. The Lady Huang's movements were elegant, showing of her elite education and linkages to the upper echelons of the realm's nobility. However, the veil remained upon her face and it lead to no clues who could be placed underneath; though if one knew of the Sleeping Dragon's wife's eyes..perhaps one could read them and recognise the promise that beamed. On the other hand, mere rumour could bring light to the Lady Huang's identity; if she had been in the Sourthern regions for a long period of time no doubt she'd heard of Zhuge Liang..and in turn, would have gained some form of information upon the woman behind such a man. "How fairs the climate of this region, that is both foreign to us?" Indeed Xinye was a beauty hard to bring oneself to escape from, difficult to forget and a city that when experienced would make the visitor wish for more time to spear..to explore this small vacinity of every treasure it had to offer. Indeed her home of Xiangyang had its great beauties, but this terrain differed; thus having its own individual jems to be discovered time and time again....

Ma Yunlu had not heard the woman approaching and so the sudden voice startled her, making her body tense in a matter of seconds. It took her one glance and she became at ease. The question was one she was not expecting, but with a small smile she showed that she did not mind.
"My father is not, but he had lived amongst them and married my mother who is of Qiang heritage."
Ma Yunlu observed the women, something about the accent she spoke in and her attire pointed out that she was not from Xin Ye, but she did not feel it to be a necessary thing to bring up. Something struck Ma Yunlu as odd, especially considering the woman had concealed her face. While curious as to who this woman was, for something about her aura states she was not any commoner, she tried to answer the womans question.
"Nights can get quite cold and during the day the sun shines bringing about a warm feeling. But of course, I, much like yourself, have only been here for merely a fortnight so my knowledge is limited."
Nights were longer here and the sun began to set at an earlier time than she was used to. The horizon here was cluttered with great trees and while she missed the look of the sun setting over sand, it was still beautiful to watch here, but a very different kind of beauty that still put her in awe... it was why she was here... waiting the sun to set. XinYe was much colder than she was used to, but the people here dressed in light clothes for they seemed to be well adjusted to the cool weather in Xin Ye. But, from what she gathered so far, it was pleasant weather that would take time to adjust to.
"If I may be bold to ask, but where is it that you hail from lady...?"
A simple question, but what she really wanted to know was who this woman was rather than where she was from. There was an aura of comfort that Ma Yunlu felt and for some strange reason, the urge to get to know her was great.

The assumptions were correct and yet it seemed strange for the husband to join the wife's family, especially that of the tribes viewed as mere barbarians to their fellow Han. But, one must keep it in high esteem for such a man not to place judgement upon the many peoples that create their fine Realm. Taking a second glance upon the young woman's visage, the eyes widened and a short smile appeared upon her lips from within the veil. "Have I been blessed with the honour of meeting the General Daughter of the Liang Walord?" Slowly the Lady Huang bowed to her, estabishing her own inferiority to that of the woman before her; there was a strange respect that she had gained from the stories of the Ma clan that resided in the Liang region. They had taken the art of cavalry to different levels that the Han could never truly grasp and this strategem had gained the interest of Lady Huang, an enthusiasm in all matters of infantry and mounted units that could be used to devastate any foe of any size. Ma Yunlu, it must have been. Though they came from the opposite sides of this realm it had not been a strange thing to gain knowledge of certain beings who stood from the norm, and it was the youthful Yunlu who did exactly that..a woman who did not bare the traditions of their matrilineal heritage and took to the garb of war.
It felt strange to be asked about herself, especially the origins to which she came from..always of the man she had devouted her previous life to, but never gaining interest to her own merit. Smiling, the Lady Huang inclined her head in thanks to the curiosity and took a swift glance to the direction of which she came. "Indeed it may seem a short journey in comparison to your own. I am from Xiangyang, a city across the great river. Even taking such a journey across the waters can present a different way of life, not to mention the way these people dress." Indeed it intrigued the Lady Huang, but she knew that their diversity was not as big as between herself and the Warrioress..their would come a time where, or so she hoped, all the tribes and cultures of their realm could finally take influence from each other.. "I apologise for such rudeness, I dare speak without introduction; how could I show such disrespect?" With a sigh in the shame of losing the high standards of social etiquette that was drilled into her as a girl, the Lady Huang elegantly moved next to this new acquaintance, kneeling by the tree..perhaps a possible friend, after all even in a city as small as Xinye such friendships would be hard to find; especially those of an honest disposition.. "I am the daughter of a minor official, Huang Chengyan. I am called Lady Huang, but to those close to me I go by the name Yueying." It was becoming the fate of their gender, when a girl was not deemed worthy of a name to remember and thus bestowed a mere title upon their family name...however, it was a rarity that the girl would recieve a name and especially to reveal it to a being she did not know. But, the Lady Huang could tell this youthful woman before her was not like any other, a small gem so foreign from this place and yet..did not lack in any education, also there was something deeper as if they shared something in common. Unknown to both, the two woman desired to be taken seriouisly and gain word of merit by their own accord; instead of through a father, brother, a husband...a male....
"Many stories have reached my ears, especially that of a woman whose prowess as a General can match any keen man and that her own cunning can bring surprising victories." Turning her gaze to the people further up the road, the Lady Huang smiled and hoped that the information she had gained of the Northern powers was correct. "Daughter of the Lord Ma Teng and sister to the Masterful sons of the Ma clan, Ma Yunlu?" Turning back to the young woman, the Lady Huang would observe her next reactions...would she too take a disliking to be someone's posession, introduced as the inferior, as 'someone's daughter'. The very saying seemed to lack self-credit for anything that the woman may have achieved, just as the Lady Huang felt..though she was sure that Ma Yunlu had not come to detest the men she was surrounded with. After all this, she did not mention her husband's name and whether the young woman knew of him or not she would not press. Simply the words could not be spoken, being once more the 'wife of Zhuge Liang'..why not the other way round? Could Kongming, not be the 'husband of Lady Huang'? Such a future shall be carved and the small fire within the Lady Huang's eyes showed a passion far greater than her small frame presented...

Ma Yunlu was impressed. With such limited information, this woman was able to deduce who she was. It was obvious to Ma Yunlu that she was not dealing with a commoner. No, she was here for more than a simple living arrangement. Still, she felt herself sitting up a bit more, for respect more so than the burning curiosity.
Ma Yunlu was almost taken aback by the bowing, she had not been bowed to since she was home with her brother and father, and so she too bowed out of respect for this peculiar woman.
"I am indeed the only daughter of Ma Teng and sister to Ma Chao, Ma Tie and Ma Xiu."
While Ma Chao may have been the crown jewel of her family, her other brothers had made quite a few accomplishments within her fathers army and she respected them. At the mention of each member of her family, she felt proud to be apart of their family, of course there was the issue of why they left... but she did not want to think about that.
So the woman was a southerner, Ma Yunlu would not have known for she was always kept in Wu Wei, only rarely allowed to travel outside the borders, and that was to the neighboring cities.
As the woman introduced herself, Ma Yunlu titled her head to the side. This womans father sounded very familiar indeed, she felt uneducated being unable to know from where she had heard the name, but there was something else that struck her as odd. As if some vital piece of information was missing, but Ma Yunlu would never pry and so she tilted her head at Yueying's introduction.
"It is a pleasure to meet you Lady Huang."
Something about Yueying intrigued Ma Yunlu. Her intelligence was a certain point. Ma Yunlu was not the strongest in her family, but she was definitely the brightest, and to be put in a place where she felt like she needed to know something, but she didn't somewhat annoyed her. Still, she moved on wanting to know more about this woman whom she felt an odd connection to.
"I am greatly flattered you know of my name."
Yes, Ma Yunlu had fought under her fathers banner and was known in Wu Wei as being the only woman to fight, but she had doubted it would reach the ears of those beyond their borders. To have someone know her by name baffled Ma Yunlu, it was not something she expected at all.
"But, I must admit, I feel like I do know you. Or someone relatively close to you."
She couldn't put her finger on it. Thinking, she began to slowly think about Yueying's father, somehow that led to her thinking of the mans wife and it hit her. Was it not that this womans father was married to the sister of Lady Cai, wife to the lord Liu Biao? Ma Yunlu's mind began working at a faster pace, there was more was this woman married? It seemed like a missing piece of the puzzle, but once again Ma Yunlu did not pry for she felt like this woman may have hidden such a fact, if existent, for a reason.
"Would you like to join me? I was sitting here contrasting the beauty of Xin Ye to that of my home the desert."
She smiled warmly, inviting the woman to join her on the warm grass. It was nice, especially with the beautiful forest behind them and soon to be setting such in front of them... Ma Yunlu loved the sun.

The kind offer was recieved with a warm smile, of course hidden behind the veil, the Lady Huang moved to the space next to the Warrioress. It was quite nice to finally rest the weight from her feet, the journey across the great river was worse than she had planned; but sometimes, these things could not be helped. Glancing towards the forest they were at the start of, it was a beautiful scene and no doubt had many secrets to whisper of the tales of war and romance...how she desired the false stories of love to come true again, the embrace of the husband something that all wives needed most; yet now, even the hand touched by him would bring her the most highest levels of rage. "I do apologise Lady Ma, to allow the names of your skilled brothers to escape my mind." As the young woman before the Lady Huang pieced together small bits of information about her, it was clear this woman too was of an intelligence higher than the norm..especially that of the woman of their realm.
However, was she trying to find something deep about her? Perhaps the final piece was to be of the man she had began to resent, the Sleeping Dragon whose absence was welcomed with a happiness still unknown to the Lady Huang. "You may have heard of my name, behind that of my husband's; Zhuge Liang." The voice turned cold when speaking of the man, there was clear tension and one that love had been drained for some time now.. "I also have young son, by the name of Zhan. However, he is yet to join me here in Xinye for I wish to create a more stable home for his arrival; only soon I hope..a mother shall always miss their children.." Looking outwards to the direction Lady Huang had arrived on, the eyes would always search the skies for the two maids bringing the infant to her..it pained her to even speak out loud that she had left Zhan behind, but, it had to be done.. After all, how could she allow a child to be brought up in a place that she too was still unfamiliar with.. "I should have brought him with me, for a mother to move without the child........." It was far too painful to speak of, the mother's love an unbreakable bond that would never be removed or forgotten. A sigh escaped her lips as the Lady Huang attempted to compose herself infront of the new acquaintance, but there was something within that felt trusting of Yunlu..both had families back home, indeed different in relation, but still the feeling of betraying the loved ones was present..
"You are a woman whose been able to carve a small piece of history for yourself, something I soon hope to do; hence the absence of the man I am married to." Once again the coldness of Lady Huang's voice returned on the thought of Zhuge, it was an issue that was becoming clear. With the husband present, the Lady Huang would never gain any reputation of her own and the merrits that she so deserved would always be placed under the recognition of that man... "Pray tell, why did you become part of the Lord Liu's administration? There are many Warlords whose attributes are of a strong disposition, our Lord Liu however has something different; did you see potential within his kind exterior?" The question was bound to appear, though their was genuine cursiosity behind the question. If you think about it, Yunlu could have gone to a Warlord that was closer to home than Liu Bei.. Li Jue and Guo Si, indeed questionable of loyalty, they held the Emperor's influence quite highly. Of course there was the Lord Cao, a man whose cunning was something to be observed and words who had clear alterior motive. Then there was the Master Sun, a youthful spirit whose embodiment of the tiger was prominent and well proven...yet, Liu Bei was chosen by many, indeed Lady Huang could view the Dragon that seemed dormant in him and needed to be awoken.. "Lady Ma, we are the women of the Green Banner's future, let us speak not as comrades but as sisters; please, call me Yueying."
Indeed it was an odd move, they did not truly know each other to be close enough as 'sisters', however the Lady Huang could see something that they both shared...the pinpoint of this was unclear, but there was surely something. Also, the truth of needing someone in Xinye was deep, a friend whose aid would bring confidence not only to the strange surroundings but also the ability that wished to rise from the heart..

Ma Yunlu shook her head, there was no reason to apologize. She was just surprised that this woman had even known who she was and that within itself was something astonishing. As Yueying sat, Ma Yun oriented her body to face the woman giving Yueying her full attention.
At the mention of the husbands name, recognition dawned on her features, but the cold voice had stopped Ma Yunlu from commenting, and so she respectfully bowed her head to the wife of 'The Sleeping Dragon'.
"It must be hard, being so far from your child and husband. I wouldn't know for I have neither."
Ma Yunlu liked being an independent woman who fought for herself and was seen as somewhat of an equal in battle, but the idea of a man whom she could lean onto and a close companion she could share a life with was... tempting. Still, she hadn't found a man she would be willing to go that far with for all were disgusting pigs who only saw her as a trophy they will place in their beds.
"The only history I have carved for myself is that of the eldest daughter of Ma Teng who has refused every man offering to take my hand in marriage."
Ma Yunlu hadn't done much, her name was not that well known outside of Wu Wei and if it was, it was only because her brothers and father were in the forefront of her light. But, she did not resent them for it, if anything she was proud of them and proud to be in their family. However, it was obvious this woman resented her husband, and Ma Yunlu could not understand why. Yes, fame was something many women fought for, usually it would be fame because of the men they were with, but to Ma Yunlu that was a great feat for being there and watching your own spouse or family blossom was a great moment for pride.
The question however broke her train of thought, and she wondered if she should admit to Yueying what had occurred between her brother and father, or would she avoid that part all together. She went with the latter.
"There is something about the great lord Liu Bei that myself and my brother see, but cannot find in any other man. He is truly a man of the people and of peace. Myself and my brother can just see ourselves fighting for him and no other."
And in this circumstance apparently not even for their own father. A saddened look crosses her face momentarily, but it was gone just as fast as it had come.
"I thank you Yueying and I to believe that the name Yunlu would be more than enough."
Could she see this woman as a sister? Yes, Ma Yunlu always wanted a sister as a child. Someone she could interact with. Yes, she had Ma Chao, but with women it was much different.

Lady Huang allowed her eyes to trail away from Yunlu as the mention of missing her son and..husband. In all truths the emptiness that she felt was not created by the absence of the man she had married, but the fact she would not wake up each morning to embrace small Zhan until he arrived with the maids. It would be hard and something that many a woman would dread to feel, the role of a mother was to remain with the child and it could not rid the fact the Lady Huang felt as if she was beginning to fail..no doubt she'd journey through the night to fetch her son herself.. "Indeed the pain is deep, not to embrace my child is a burden hard to bear. But I must secure a home here before he can settle in a new environment.. My husband on the other hand.." The eyes finally turned to face Yunlu, they were watered and as if ready to allow the tears role down her cheeks..but it was clear that Lady Huang was fighting them back. "The traditions set for a wife is of pride, but over the years when the recognition for all you do is taken in the name of your husband can wear thin; soon enough the heart will desire its own acknowledgement." It was the first time that the young woman had said what the mind had thought for such a long time, that Zhuge was not as all would assume. Each night, when Zhan was asleep, they would take t othe study and begin work on the scrolls of the past..when a works was discovered or something new invented it was her behind the schemes, but it was him who would gain the credit. She knew of what her place was, however it did not suffice to be the woman behind the curtain..she needed something to grip and to give something to her son to remember her by..for the world to remember her by and not to fade in the times of history..
The veil was a good defence, as it enabled the Lady Huang to repress the tears and force them into retreat. Taking a short breath, the voice gained strength and the disposition return to its previous manner; knowing that to be strong for her new life, she could not allow the heart to fail once again.. Though, there was something clear in her, that something missed Zhuge and there would always be a void without him; of course, he was her first love and only husband...that was more than anything.. "Many believe to find a husband is something of high importance for a woman, but do not rush into it; if you have refused many a hand..it shows that you have much to accomplish before the ceremony can begin." A faint smile appeared upon Lady Huang's expression as the conversation moved onto more personal matters. There seemed some hesitence in Yunlu's manner that spoke of something far deeper than she would go, but it would not be her place to pry in such personal affairs; they had just met after all.
"Indeed he is, a marvel that I cannot quite explain to myself as yet. Though it must comfort you to fight beside your brother again?" Smiling the sigh of relief was welcomed, finally to find a person she felt comfortable to speak so freely with. Yes the maids in Xiangyang were good confidants, but it was inevitable they would spill her words to Zhuge; also..her Aunt, the Lady Cai.. A woman she felt was far too busy for idol chatter of hers.. "Perhaps the time away from your hometown will be to your advantage, for your feats shall be judged individually instead of through the heritage you have. Once established, then it could be your time to return and aid your father in his reconciliation of the Qiang and Han." It would not be an easy task, with an infamous dislike towards each other..but there had to be an end to all this conflict somehow. Ma Teng was doing a fine job of halting both sides to peaceful terms so far, but there will be a time where his body is far too weak to cope with the burden anymore..and it would be place onto the duty of Yunlu to distribute the balance of power. Maybe it was the Heavens showing she was not ready for such a task, that there was more work to refine her talents and allow the potential she had within to shine on its own accord. "You seem a woman whose skills are more than just martial, could there be a glisten of knowledge? If I am not mistaken, the Ma clan of Wuwei are not known for producing tacticians but ferocious warriors."
There was trust, yet something was missing as the Lady Huang would not remove the veil yet..perhaps this first meeting was simply to establish the friendship and soon the truth behind the use of her veil will come naturally. "What do you think of our Lord's move away from the Southlands and his glance to the jurisdiction of his kinsmen Liu Zhang?" Intelligence was seen in Yunlu's eyes and something Lady Huang respected greatly, especially a woman who had become learned over the years..this is where the two could perhaps combine their knowledge in order to aid Liu Bei in his endeavours, for it won't be pure strength that would win over the people..and the land.

Ma Yunlu had no children, but she knew what it was like wen worried over someone younger. Ma Yunlu everyday thought about her two younger brothers. Wondering if they were safe and praying they would not resent her or Chao for leaving. While having Chao by her side, she yearned to feel the warmth of a complete family and she could see herself empathizing with Yueying.
"I do hope your son will arrive soon Yueying, but---"
She paused, trying to think of a way to word her response to her explanation of her husband. Ma Yunlu had no husband, but she had a brother who was always the forefront of their family, a diamond amongst a sea of silk and she knew that that difference sapped some of the other accomplishments she made, such as the tactics she shared.
"---you see Yueying, I helped my father and his tactician, making moves that would make even the worst odds turn a battle in our favor. But with my brother executing the actions, he got all the glory."
Ma Yunlu was trying to explain what she believed, that it wasn't her brother she should blame, but rather how the world viewed women. Yes, it got annoying sometimes, but she could not be bitter for it.
"What I am trying to say is that, we cannot control what is socially accepted, and women with a great deal of power rivaling a man is not a widely accepted concept of all of Han."
Ma Yunlu knew that she had just met Yueying, but she felt like she could be honest about things without being shut down. Perhaps, she was trying to look for another woman she could share controversial conversations with and not feel like she was talking to a brick wall. It explained why Ma Yunlu did not have many friends who were women back home.
"Yes, my father has raised himself some powerful sons, my brothers being great warriors, ones I am very proud of. I, myself, can hold my own against the younger two brothers, but Chao is the brawns."
She smiled, whenever she spoke of her brother there was a look of pride on her face, and she could not help but grin.
"While Chao gained the strength of my father, I was blessed with the intelligence of my mother. A women who did everything that she was expected of and never involved herself in politics, but her ideas have always been taken to heart by my father and she taught me well."
Their mother was quiet, never amongst the men in council meetings, but Ma Teng told his wife many things and she was always able to give him ideas... Ma Yunlu was fortunate to have gained that.
"Where my brother lacks, I make up for and vice versa. You could say we are inseparable."
And it was true, Ma Yunlu could have stayed in the sanctuary of her home the desert, but she opted to follow Chao south, and so far she regretted nothing.
Feeling like they could finally move on to a safer topic, she bit her lip for a bit, processing Yueyings question. Ma Yunlu hadn't been around for very long, but she had a bit of knowledge which she picked up from observations and council meetings.
"While it is not my place to comment, I do believe that one could only go so far south. Moving North would be a good and with a great ally lord Liu Biao directly south,--- "
She paused, Yueying could fill in the rest of her sentence, but what really made her pause was the fact that her home was far north, at the North-West corner of Han, not at any point soon would her lord Liu Bei come close to there, but what about a few years down the line. Would she have to fight against the very father she swore to never shame again?
"In terms of Liu Zhang, such an ally with his rich soils stretching to Cheng Du, lord Liu Bei can do no wrong and with the fact that they are kinsman, why would Liu Zhang turn down our lord such a beautiful chance at peace with a new neighbor.
She could say more, personally, she felt that if Liu Bei stretched his land to the east and gave Liu Zhang a great position, their lord Liu Bei could do wonders for the people perhaps, and she wasn't going to admit it, better than Liu Zhang himself.
It was apparent in Ma Yunlu's eyes that she had so much more to say on the topic, but she would be treading in dangerous waters and while back in Wu Wei, she would not be punished for controversial thoughts... here was a different story.
"And yourself Yueying? I am curious as to what you have to say about the topic."

The warrioress made many a vallied point, but the Lady Huang could not help feel that something was lacking; the fact was, she spoke of siblings, not of marriage. Within a marriage the two beings had to cooperate and take their roles, both yielding to each other's words and desire..the wife more so than the husband. However, they were a being too and felt much more things than their man ever could. How could she not feel scorned by the fact her own husband, a man who confessed douting love to, allow himself to turn another check with such matters that were so close to her heart. Glancing to Yunlu, the young woman allowed a sigh to escape her lips as the woeful subject continued. "Your words are correct, however, I have no siblings to share such memories; furthermore, do you not feel the bond between brothers and sisters are far closer than that of husband and wife?" Looking to the road ahead, the Lady Huang once again sighed. "Promised the skies, then given the unfertile earth. This is what I have recieved over the years, I know I should bow and appreciate the son we are blessed with; but then...I would not be myself, before little Zhan we needed each other; but now, my husband is the only dependent party." It was sad to think that the love they clearly shared in the early days of their marriage had been lost, into the winds it flew never to be grasped again; yet, there seemed something within her eyes..a memory of the remaining pieces that were shattered. Each fragment held an adoration still for Zhuge and yet there lacked the true strength to place each of the broken pieces together, so it could heal to its former self...perhaps if he was not absent as much as he was....
"However, my Heaven is no longer with my husband, but transfered to my beloved son; who my every being acts to protect." The day would come for Yunlu when the offspring she embraces are all she will need, a simple cuddle from the child will fill her days with happiness beyond anything she could expect. To see their progression and development, blossoming before their very eyes... A light smiled appeared on the visage of the Lady Huang as she viewed a faint picture of her son in the passing clouds. Glad for the warrioress' company, she shifted a little closer and turned to this new friend of hers. Finally a confidant could be found, one whose intelligence would complement her own and the conversation able to escape the realms of social norms. Hearing her words of the path she could foresee Liu Bei take was interesting and quite informative, the way of thinking was somewhat smilar..but there was a hesitance and then a complete change of thought placed upon the Lady Huang. Observing Yunlu, there was something there that perhaps did not know how to be spoken and allowed to take flight. Or did she not wish to air the worry that suddenly arose from the question of how the Green Banner should progress into the future? "Why halt Yunlu?" It was clear, the skies could see this too.. The fear of having to one day turn the blade she wielded upon the Norther bordering regions, and ultimately..her family. "Do you fear the day that perhaps our Lord Liu's eyes desire the region of Wuwei? We share similar discomfort, for one day he shall view the lands of the south as something that could be delicious to his rule; thus, forcing me to think twice. For that day shall be lead by the defenders of the Cai clan, my mother's family." To the Lady Huang, the two women sat before the forest of Xinye were sharing more and more common factors than first percieved. A desire for individual acknowledgement, to further develop the talents they had required and finally, the fear of one day having to decide between duty of servitude or loyalty to the family.
"It seems our mind share similar woes Yunlu, perhaps our day was fated?" A short giggle left, not entirely sure if the reasoning behind such 'fate' could be explained at this moment, but surely there was something of fruit. Looking upwards Lady Huang viewed the small leaves dancing with the gentle breeze that surrounded them, it was becoming quite a nice day and a relaxing one at that. "For the matter of the future, solidifying what our Lord already has is of high important. After that, I believe Lord Liu must take to thinking deeply; to advance North...or turn the blade against one of his kinsmen. For the former, I believe it shall leave strain upon you and be the ultimate test of true loyalties.. The latter? It is the unfortunate fate of Master Liu Zhang to fall before our Lord, his territory ripe and would give the foundations of a strengthened military to the Green Banner. My Uncle's land shall be a natural transition into Lord Liu's jurisdiction, however that of my mother's clan must be delt with before that can become successful." It was true, the Cai family were the biggest thorn in the side of Liu Bei than any other rival and it would only be correct for him to inherit the fertile lands of Liu Biao's kingdom. First they would gain another ally in the form of one of the heirs, to whom will see the deterioration of their administration and take the advice to annex with their kinsmen. For now, they had to strengthen internal and external affairs then advance upon the weak minded Liu Zhang; taking great care in the dealings of his many talented officers..such as; Huang Zhong, Yan Yan and the worthy statesman Huang Quan...
"Do not hide your fears from me Yunlu, forming the bond of sisterhood, the secrecy shall never be spoken." The once gentile tones turned serious and the Lady Huang's eyes gazed to the warrioress once more. Slowly the delicate hand reached to the side of her face and unclipped the clasp that held the veil in its place. Falling to one side the visage was open to inspection, the beauty of Lady Huang was staggering and quite confusing to why she would ever hide the blessing she was given. However, it was quite surprising, with the many rumours that were spread about how her appearance was worse than 'ugly'. "I know of the beauty I wield, however, I hide it behind this viel as not to be open to criticism; a woman should use her mind not the assets that she was given... Thus, it shall be the door for the acknowledgement of my deeds, rather than the slander of any chastity that men may cast upon me." Never wishing to look at another man other than her husband, even though some dislike was brewing, the Lady Huang understood the double-sided sword of words and knew that within their realm if a single man questioned her chastity...all could be ruined. However, the modesty would present to all that the faithful wife was never going to vanish from her. As if not wishing any other to see the Lady Huang fixed the veil back across her visage and looked out to the world..
"Do not worry for your people Yunlu, I can already see that the Lord Liu will not bring harm to them...." However, the Lady Huang could not finish the sentence knowing that it would be another Warlord who would reach Wuwei first; Li Jue and Guo Si...or even that of Cao Cao. But, how could she tell a possible close friend that her own father may not be able to defend himself for long against being consumed into another's Kingdom?....

Ma Yunlu knew that the bond between a brother and sister was different between a husband and a wife, but in her eyes she thought that both had their advantages and disadvantages.
"As different as the two are, but many underestimate the power of a bond between a husband and wife."
She could say so much more, Ma Yunlu believed that a bond between a husband and a wife could be even closer than that of a brother and a sister. Yes, she loved her brothers very much, but the bond between herself and her brother Chao was far greater than that of her bond between the younger two.
Still, she said no more on the topic and continued on, sometimes the less said the better.
Ma Yunlu had not expected Yueying to be able to pick up on the one thing that seemed to bother her. The woman was perceptive and had a keen eye for reading the hidden meaning within ones words... Ma Yunlu was impressed.
"Yes, I have considered it very early on, even before reaching these lands, but I did not dare bring it up to my brother... leaving was a hard choice as it was.,"
Her voice had softened just a bit, eyes looking away from Yueying as her mind traveled to what happens barely more than a fortnight before. Still, she allowed her voice to strengthen and continued.
"I believe if lord Liu Bei were to take the former, I believe I would try to convince father of fighting, I do not know if I would be... willing to fight for my father."
Not only did she think about fighting her own father, but she had also considered the reason why her brother had been upset with their fathers decision. It made her see the error of his ways and she could only pray that he would not resent his children from leaving.
Ma Yunlu realized how harsh her words may have seemed, but the look in her eyes told a different story. One of sacrifice and resignation to the idea of fighting her father, but also she told a tale of sadness that she felt and knew she would feel if she had to take up arms against the man who nurtured her.
Returning to the latter concept, she nodded her head, Yueying saying everything that Ma Yunlu was thinking.
"I do not know much of lord Liu Bei's kinsmen, but I believe that our lord could do so much for the people of those lands. I apologize, for I do not know much about your uncle, but while this temporary alliance is quite useful, eventually when things change it must be united under one land... and that shall be the land of our lord."
She hoped she did not offend Yueying, but she felt like she could speak with this woman and not reserve her thoughts. The woman herself did not hold back and so Ma Yunlu would not as well.
"I do not doubt that Lord Liu Bei will harm my people, but there are those around who will not hesitate to do so, in that case do I stay or leave?"
She would want to go and fight with her father, if only to save her people, but when she returned, would she come at a time where her strength in war may be needed? So many things to think about and Yunlu knew she would have to make a hard decision eventually.
Seeing this womans face, Ma Yunlu smiled, she could now match a beautiful face to an intelligent mind.
"Beauty comes as much from the mind as from the eye."
It was something she truly believed. At a time, Ma Yunlu was only seen as the beautiful daughter of Ma Teng. Men do nothing but flocking to her fathers door and asking for her hand in marriage either for themselves or for their sons. Eventually, it was her strength and her mind that were seen as beauty and men were able to see her somewhat as an equal, but of course the proposals never stopped, just lessened. ----- Quote: "Beauty comes as much from the mind as from the eye." ~ Grey Livingston

It seemed clear that the warrioress was quite close to her brother, especially to guard him from the truth that she hides and not to place more worry upon him. Such was the life of the eldest sister, something that the Lady Huang could never experience but did not mean she could not appreciate the efforts she put herself through. Reading the stories that the eyes told, the pain that Yunlu had put herself through were large and the remains of the past refused to shift..the gentile winds of the future could not get rid of the trace, neither could any tears shed. The life of a woman was hard and trying to break into the realm of men was even harder, a smile could only be placed to the sacrifice that the warrioress was going through. "As women, we are naturally open to caring for others sacrificing our own hearts; some men have the mind of one, such luck to think in that way." A small jest, it had becoming tiring to remain in the state of sadness for so long. To even joke was seen as an act of turning the back upon the chaos, even though happiness could be found in the strangest of places.
As the conversation moved to one of a severe nature, the question of Liu Biao's lands were clearly visible and the voice traced around the fact of her relation to the Imperial kinsmen. Allowing a sigh to leave her lips, the Lady Huang nodded in agreement to the statement made by Yunlu. "Your words are correct Yunlu, however, it shall not be my Uncle that oour Lord faces; but my Aunt." Looking to the trees, she could already see the future, when the time of Liu Biao's death arises the Cai clan would make their move. All too well could Lady Huang read her Aunty, the Lady Cai would instigate that her brothers inherit the lands before Liu Bei could have any form of word. If the will of Liu Biao stated that the executive of succession would be upon his shoulders, it would be swiftly forged to that of the Cai. "But how can you convince a person whose mind has been set, refusing to move from their futile plans?" Such talk reminded the young woman of Yunlu's previous words of not knowing whether she could stand by her father's side, nor could she know if the blade she carried would fight for the Lord Liu. It was true, the Qiang were deemed unworthy in comparison to the those of the Han and no doubt the upper echelons would become the reaper of the Underworld. Turning to face the warrioress, Lady Huang could read that she knew exactly what would happen when the Green Banner would turn upon the warriors of Wuwei. "One must follow that of the heart, though one could always halt those who threat the safety of your people. I can already see the downfall of my family, fortunately so can my father and he shall remain safe; much cannot be said of my mother's Cai."
Rising from the ground, a short breath was taken as the Lady Huang brushed down the silken robes..there may not have been anything of substance, but one can never be too careful. "When the time comes, my friend, perhaps our minds can combine to take those who wish to harm the Qiang in another route, leaving us to have this matter end amicably." It may have been a useless 'hope' tool, but the young woman could see a form of desperation and the sacrifice that would see large consequences, those that could unwind out of control. However, taking the role of a friend, some reasurance had to be established to show that perhaps the path she chose was the correct one...that the Ma family would be secure in time, there could be a time where her family were given permission as vassalship.
"Such talk, dear Yunlu, would seem that our end is mere suffering. Indeed our first steps are unsteady, but the route shall become safe." Gesturing towards the road, there was a warm smile appearing upon Lady Huang's visage..taking a peaceful notion out of finally finding an equal..someone who could not only be related to, but also have common ground and express the matters that the heart dare not speak. "Do you wish to take a strole, or perhaps a taste of the teas Xinye has to offer? Though our worries continue, there should be some happiness found in the unfamilar for us." Maybe this could be what the warrioress needed, being surrounded by war for so long could have detatched her from the life that most commonly daughters had experienced. To have the easy life of blossoming into flowers, being able to take a chance to simply sit and drink tea with the others; of course, this could just be the life of a wealthy daughter...but the young woman could not think of a situation that even the most masculine of girls could enjoy relaxing with a friend, talking about issues that had no substance..as the scholars of old that were know known as sages.. Offering a kindly hand to rise from the ground, the smile may have been behind a veil; but it was most clear to that of Huang's new friend...

Ma Yunlu did not comment, but she appreciated Yueyings words all the same. Her lips were set in a tiny smile, allowing the sadness in her eyes to slowly disappear.
With the change of topic back to more political issues, she titled her head to the side, not understanding why Yueyings aunt would be an issue. Ma Yunlu, once again, knew very little about the south, but she was positive that the way people ruled was the same. Men dominated and women listened to their husbands while doing all their bidding.
"I am curious as to why Lord Liu Bei should fear your aunt?"
It was a simple question, but Ma Yunlu was the type of person who when she didn't know something, she did her best to try and understand. She felt that knowledge was limitless and she wanted to absorb as much of it as possible.
"It's not about convincing a person, it is about completely changing their perspective so that they could see everything in your eyes."
Ma Yunlu wanted to do this for her brother and father. For both of them to see their own fight in her eyes. But, with both being so stubborn, she doubted she'd be able to convince either and perhaps she should allow her brother this time in Lord Liu Bei's army so he himself could see the fight through another perspective. In her eyes... it was all about time.
Ma Yunlu shrugged a bit, her eyes finally trailing over to where the sun had begun its slow decent. Where it would disappear for the night and return to greet them early in the morning.
"I do hope you are right Yueying, for perhaps someday, the Qiang will be seen as equals to those of the rest of Han."
As much as she prayed this would be true, deep down inside she believed it may not be in her lifetime where her mothers people can be seen as equals. Ma Yunlu wondered what had driven her father into marrying a woman of Qiang, but she was grateful all the same.
"Your offer for tea sounds lovely, I believe I have yet to try the teas here in Xin Ye."
It would be a nice change in scenery, perhaps the view of the sunset would be even more beautiful in a teahouse. Perhaps the tea itself will soothe her and have her not think about the negatives that may or may not occur in the future.

Turning to face the warrioress, the Lady Huang could not help allow a small chuckle escape her lips as she was questioned about her Aunt Cai..it was a strange fate and many have had fear put into their hearts when coming accross such a Dragon Lady. Though it was the kinsmen Liu Biao who ruled the Southlands, but behind the curtain was the Lady Cai using all the guile she had to his route a different direction to which it was first proposed. "Our age is that the woman steps back so that the Warlord rules over the land, the household being the only domain that the woman has presidence over. However, this is far too little for my Aunt and from the shadows the stream to which the Imperial Kinsmen takes is ultimately diverted; to a direction that would benefit the Cai clan." The truth was somewhat painful to even speak of, that the very woman she held dear could sacrifice the happiness of the populace simply to elovate the power of her clan. The Lady Cai's tongue was sharp and dangerous to oppose, especially as the majority of the administration of worth in servitude to Liu Biao were relatives or close friends of Lady Huang's Aunt.
"I take no pride in the methods, but my heart cannot lie to itself that I care dearly for my Aunt; even though, all I foresee of her fate is darkness.." The young woman could already tell that the actions of Lady Cai would have large consequences for the entirity of the Cai, especially those directly related to her. After Liu Biao's death the lands under his jurisdiction would come under grave situations, the question of true succession and possible overthrow lead by Cai Mao. Taking a breath, the Lady Huang attempted to pick up the sadenned topic of something more hopeful than their current situation...after all, they were the generation to cut away at the chaotic turmoil that was allowed to spread, if they did not carry the hope upon their shoulders..how else would it the seed of the future be sewn?... "Yet we are mere mortals and are upon to be lead astray, it is a shame that even my words may not be able to sway her mind; thus, the rivers must run their course.."
Slowly walking down the path to a teahouse she knew, whose top balcony had the most delightful view of what would be the setting sun. Lady Huang was unaware of the taste of Xinye tea, hoping that it would be similar to that of her home; indeed difference in culture was a given..but what of a simple substance as tea?.. "Indeed your words are true Yunlu, your people's status will take some time to stabilise with equality of the Han..but, do not worry yourself, there shall be that day; I forsee our aging eyes straining to see the Cheiftan of the Qiang and Emperor of our Realm bow as brothers.." Jesting there was a hidden hope that one day the Qiang and Han could be as the two women were, being able to live side-by-side and taking comfort in both's qualities. After all, they were of the same earth and though different customs; could they not educate each other and best themselves in knowledge?.. Observing the decsending sun, the Lady Huang closened herself to Yunlu and slightly nudged to the chest; a small jibe that only a bond of sisterhood could understand. "Think of this, it could be us two mere women to halt the discrimination of your people and be the mediators for peace between both cultures.. As my mother once told me, when the man faltors it is the duty of the wife to be the mountain." A small giggle, though the tone of hope would be visible to Yunlu and one that the Lady Huang would dream of one day. Diplomacy could be used as a lethal weapon, one far greater than that of out-right war. To become the mediator between two peoples and reach amicable terms of equality and understanding, for a future that peace resonates with each party believing cooperation shall secure their generations destinies...
"Ah, here it is. The Smiling Mountain Inn, such a quaint place that is underestimated in decoration but if you view to the top floor there is a balcony. I have once drank the sweet Southern wine gazing out towards the Great River and watched the sun's raise until I could greet the moon." The Lady Huang was still quite young and though advances in years was her mind, the youthful nature was still present. It could detatch the mind from certain matters of suffering to enjoy the fruits of their realm, the luxuries of life that could come in simple forms and allow the living to continue. Taking Yunlu's hand, the young woman rushed towards the Inn and a certain excitement was blossoming within Lady Huang. Finally she had found a friend that time could be spent both conversing of grave issues, while having the chance to allow the mind to flutter away with the gentle breezes; for, the many a year she had been left to her own thoughts..missing the company of a fellow woman who's own knowledge could complement her own. "I believe the teas of the South could be sweet in comparison with the North, I only hope it is something you shall be satisfied with; if not, I am sure they could have the tastes of your home.." Smiling the Lady Huang had already began to view her as the elder sister, though only spending this time to get to know each other. It was a strange feeling that such woes could bring two beings together and share their words of worry to form a strong bond, or so she believed.
"Are you hungry Yunlu, once again, I must warn you that such as the teas..we of the South enjoy a much sweeter taste than the North." It still fascinated the young woman that even of the same Realm, the differences in not only culture and attire, but also taste differed to some certain dramatic proportions. The South known for the sweetness, the North known for its bitterness and the West infamous for its enjoyment of the spices. The first time the Lady Huang had tried a dish from the Shu region was quite something, an extraordinary experience that would not be attempted again; as if the fires of the Phoenix's tail emerged all at once on the palate. Eyes shone bright as they searched Yunlu's thoughts, knowing that everything would be new for her..indeed getting used to the difference in tastes was something, but one Lady Huang would hope would be easy; if not, she knew a fast way to have the ingredients known to the Qian to be transported....

Ma Yunlu was unsure how to digest something like that. A woman in power who thought about nothing but strengthening her clan name. Ma Yunlu thought that such a thing was, in a sense, silly. She did not allow herself to continue her train of thought nor elaborate on it verbally, but she nodded her head to show Yueying she understood what the woman meant.
Ma Yunlu thought back to the conversation between her father and brother. She wondered if the same greed was what drove him to commit the actions that made her brother feel shame? Of course, there were other reasons for her fathers attack, but it all boiled down to her into one simple concept... greed. Ma Yunlu shook her head, what was the world coming to.
"I believe you are right my dear friend; hopefully it will be even sooner than we expect."
Yunlu's face reflected the hope in her words and the gesture made my Yueying made her somewhat giggle. Never had she been treated by a woman in such a way. For once, the woman around her were not there to dot on her ever wants and needs, but was there to be a friend and, in essence, a shoulder to lean on. Ma Yunlu was grateful.
As they came to a stop at the inn, her eyes turned upwards. She spotted the balcony and immediately knew it would be perfect. She trusted her friends judgement of the place and felt grateful that she could share the setting sun with someone who she new deep down in her heart that she would grow to be even greater friends with.
"I have come to the south and I shall take advantage of getting to know the many tastes and many different textures that are not present in my home. I am positive I will enjoy it all the same."
Her lips turned upward in a simplistic smile, she knew she would be alright with trying something new, besides it would be a learning experience for her.
"I have never seen the setting sun from so high up. From my home, myself and my brother sit atop the sand dunes and watch as the sun illuminates the sand. I hope that one day, I can take you there and you can watch the sunset of the north."
It was the most beautiful sight in her opinion, one which she would always remember as one of the jewels of living in the north. It was a moment she felt like she could share with those close to her and so far Yueying was on the way to becoming Ma Yunlu's closest friend.
The idea of food was tempting and she immediately nodded her head in gratitude. She had already tried the foods of the south and while the sweet taste took time to get accustomed to, she felt that the unique taste was one she rather liked.
"The food here was peculiar to my tongue at first, but I believe that even a difference such as food is one I must get used to. And, I will admit, that the sweet taste is quite welcomed."
She preferred her food from the north, but the food down in the south was delicious in it's own sense.
