Shanyue Reinforcements (Yan Baihu): 8,500
5,000 Peasants 1,000 Swordsmen 1,000 Spearmen 1,500 Archers
Battle Moderator: Jen (Diao Chan)
Liu Yong and Taishi Ci start outside of the city, their armies mobilized and marshalled. Wang Lang is stationed at the top of supply base. Yan Baihu is awaiting Wu forces in the main road, to the left of the supply base.
The Yangtze River is very wide, and is notoriously difficult to cross. Crossing it on foot or on a horse is not an option, the current is very strong, troops who fall in are almost certain to drown, even if they are adept at swimming.
The Mengchong fleet is allowed to start at the eastern most edge of the map, on the Yangtze river. The fleet can hold 2,500 troops.
The sturdy wood bridge crossing the river can accomodate 100 men width-wise, it will take a turn at least for an army to cross it.
Yuan Shu has not appeared yet.
Attackers may post first, any questions can be posted in the OOC thread.

The False Emperor's Iron Fist Finally, the day of combat had come. The Eastern Alliance arrayed its armies on the field of battle and tasked with engaging the enemy first was Yan Baihu, the supposed White Tiger King. He and his following of Shanyue rabble waited anxiously for the enemy to arrive. However, they would not be waiting much longer. The thunderous sound of war drums could be heard approaching from the south and the deep bass rattled the barbarians to their collective core. Not only that, but a massive dust cloud was rising into the heavens and its cause was the march of 10 thousand strong. Yan Baihu could start to make out the head of a long snake-like trail of soldiers. Leading at the front was none other than Huang Gai, Wu's Vanguard General. There was no doubt that Baihu had heard of the late Sun Jian's elite and luckily, for him, he would not have to face such a daunting task. Gai's unit started to veer off to the left, Baihu's right, and on the other side Cheng Pu did the same but in the opposite direction; heading toward the eastern forest and path. Mixed among the force was a myriad of new talent including: Lu Fei, Li Wang, Sun Yuan Ci, and Wulong Wang. Truly, with these new additions, together with the veterans, the Alliance was in for a fight. The main group of soldiers moved up the road and formed up at the mouth of the pass when Yan Baihu's unit was in sight. The drums of war continued to beat until finally, when all men were still, they stopped. Banners of both Wu and Cheng were mixed along the frontlines and they fluttered in the cool river breeze. The great Chang Jiang was north of their position and all who were familiar with its glory could smell and sense it. After all, it was the lifeblood of so many people in the southlands. The lines slowly opened at the center to reveal an armored warrior on horseback. He urged his steed forward and the gap behind him began to close. The horse neighed and bucked, anxious to enter the fray as much as its master. He unsheathed his twin swords and pointed one of them at the enemy. "I am Sun Ce of Jian An, son of a TRUE tiger! You dare stand in my path?"Ce whipped his twin blades around and they sang a song which was almost beautiful if it were not going to be followed by the screams of men. He cursed and abused his enemy before turning back to issue orders. "Li Wang, take the swords and move to the front. Lu Fei will be stationed right behind you with archers."Ce's formation would have the group of swords at the front, archers immediately behind, then spears, then peasants, and the cavalry to the rear. <><><><><><>
Summary:
Sun Ce's army splits into three groups. The main group under his command moves up the center to meet Yan Baihu. The army forms up and prepares for battle.

Li Wang's contingent, attached to that of Sun Ce's
Strength: 500 swords
"I am Sun Ce of Jian An, son of a TRUE tiger! You dare stand in my path?"
Li Wang listened respectfully as a subordianate should, then brandished his fist in the air as the army cheered; Sun Ce's forces would secure victory this day. As soon as the cries died down, the Lord Sun turned to address him and Lu Fei, his equal in rank, to be sure, but before the day was out Rui would prove to Fei that he was the better warrior.
"Li Wang, take the swords and move to the front. Lu Fei will be stationed right behind you with archers."
At once, my Lord. Rui had his horse put into the care of a camp attendant, then set of at a jog to the front line where his contingent of 500 swordsmen stood ready, speaking with Lu Fei as he went. A good day for a battle, don't you think? He laughed as he trotted by him, battle lust heightening his senses as he approached his swordsmen.
Rui drew up in front of his swordsmen, a wide grin across his face as he addressed them.
Today, we fight! He yelled. Today, we win! He paused to let his words take effect.
And we shall be the tip of the spear! He yelled as he drew one of his twin blades and raised it to the sky. He allowed the men exactly one minute to cheer, then he arranged his men into twenty 25 by 5 blocks in a formation that had the blocks four deep, with space to fit a half block between each group. He gave exactly one glance back to where the rest of Sun Ce's contingent waited to follow as his troops bellowed war cries that rose to the very heavens as he awaited the order to advance.
Summary: Li Wang rallies the troops, forms them up, and prepares to march.

Ulayne Umi: 2,000 - Mengchong Fleet 500 Archers 500 Crossbows 400 Swords 600 Peasants
Far away from the prepared battle between Yan Baihu and Sun Ce, the young mystic of Wu enjoyed the day's breeze as her fleet sailed along the Chang Jiang. Sailing upstream was no easy task, but her fleet had the wind at its back, the great masts of her Mengchong ships propelling them forward at a good pace. The great oars of the advanced fleet moved in unison, rowed by the peasants that Ulayne had specifically trained for this occasion.
Ulayne donned her lamellar armor and stood inside her flagship, the one towered ship among the Mengchong fleet, practicing her skills with her newly purchase voulge. She sparred with a few swordsmen, using well-practiced feints to catch them off balance. She tripped one of the soldiers with the voulge's blunt pole, and he looked quite embarrassed. Finally though, a captain entered the room.
"Milady, we are approaching Jian Ye."
Ulayne nodded and thanked the soldiers she was sparring with. Heading out to the ship's deck she looked over her arrangement to make sure everything was in position.
Her ships traveled in a wedge formation (also known as an upside-down V), with her flagship somewhere in the middle so that she might command each of her captains. With her knowledge of the river's currents, she had managed to explain to each of the captains how to best steer their vessel to stay in formation, and so they were careful to travel in tight formation. The point of the wedge was that it was very effective in destroying enemy battle lines.
Ulayne made sure that on each of the ships the coverings were still in place and that all of the troops were under them. Unfortunately, one peasant on each ship served as lookout and so could not benefit from the increased protection of the covering. These lookouts would warn Ulayne if Liu Yong's ships were ever in sight.
Standing on the deck of her flagship, Ulayne raised her voulge to the sky and brought it down hard, pointing to the west in the direction of Jian Ye. Her soldiers got the message and beat upon the drums hard. Each captain bade his men do the same. The Mengchong fleet was advancing.
Summary:
Ulayne and her men advance westward on the river towards the bridge.

The morning approached fast. From the time Sun Yuan Ci set cup down and laid head to rest, only a few hours had passed until he was mounting his horse in full battle armor with his sword at his side. When he woke up, he could feel the swelling in his head from the wine the night before, but through preparation and anxiety, such a feeling was now gone, blocked out by his adrenaline.
He looked to his left, where he saw General Huang Gai marching up the infantry and archers. Turning his head to his rear, he reviewed his army, a strong battalion of cavalry. He knew their tactics well, and being at the head would insure a strong use out of them.
Zhiyun had waited for this moment for what seemed like an eternity, though it was only a week ago he gave voice to the plan to aid Sun Ce. The young warlord was righteous and mighty, and depending on his ambition, Zhiyun began considering pledging his loyalty to this man. At his desk in Jian An sat a letter with a seal from Liu Biao, enemy of the Sun Clan, giving Zhiyun rank and fortune, but through deliberation he chose to follow his first thought, and ride with Sun Ce to take Jiang Dong.
His sworn brother was Po Ang, and he would be disappointed to hear of Sun Yuan Ci taking up arms with an enemy force. Such unpleasant thought would have to be put to delay. Liu Biao was an enemy but not at the moment, and if the lord wishes it, perhaps relations could be secured.
Riding up the western flank with Huang Gai, Sun Yuan Ci stopped when they reached a mountain pass, allowing Huang Gai to transverse it first. Horses were of no use on a mountain, they’d need to find flat ground to fight effectively.
Huang Gai and Sun Yuan Ci continued up the western mountain pass, heading north to the bridge that combined the two together. As the approached the bridge, Sun Zhiyun turned and addressed his men. His voice was loud and carried as if the wind was its messenger. All his men could hear.
“Today you fight for glory and home,” Zhiyun said, “And that is an honorable battle to partake. These men are rebels and vagabonds, and victory should be had. But their force is vast, and the death of many is a certainty.
“Fight with honor, brave men of the Southlands. And should the heavens deem it to be so, die the same.”
-Huang Gai leads 500 archers and 500 crossbowmen up the lower western mountains.
-Sun Yuan Ci follows him close with 1,000 cavalry, urging his men to fight and die with honor

Liu Yong, Taishi Ci & Zhou Yu The confederation camp on the other side of the mighty Yangtze was bustling with life. Drills were being performed, units, squadrons, captains and lieutenants all found their places amongst the massive army being marshalled outside of Jian Ye. Liu Yong looked out of place. He sat in the middle of it all, on a podium, sitting at a small desk drinking tea. Seemingly distant and detached from the rest of the world. As the administer of Jian Ye, her certaintly had military duties, but he had left them in the most capable hands of his commander-in-chief Taishi Ci. Thus -- he didn't feel bothered in the slightest. Liu Yong was surrounded by respected generals and their deputies, pointing to their maps and battle plans, arguing over which one would be the best course to take. A letter arrived, the latest correspondence from his ally, the intelligent old geyser Wang Lang. He read the letter with a smile: At the supply camp. Eating food with the troops.
Yan Baihu still smells awful.
The view from the mountain is delightful, Wu troops in sight, a detachment heading for the forest, a large fleet approaching the bridge from the East.
Yu Fan suggests sending Taishi Ci across the river. There is at least 10,000 Wu troops. There is no sign of a greater host on the way.
- Wang Lang.Liu Yong placed the letter down gently and contemplated with a long sip of his tea. Wang Lang was no military commander either, but Yu Fan was capable, almost on par with Taishi Ci in terms of strategy. But Liu Yong had no intentions of sending Taishi Ci across the river to combat Wu... "Master Yong," Taishi Ci's rough voice suddenly became apparent at the planning table, having made his way through an entourage of other generals, "Send me across the river to support Yan Baihu's men." He knelt, sure that his request would be fulfilled. "No." Liu Yong replied rather bluntly, Taishi Ci was used to having his wishes granted -- especially when it came to battles. The commander looked up, dumbstruck, "Why?!" Liu Yong blew on his tea, "Yan Baihu is a pestilence on this Earth, let the Tigers battle it out, and if the White Tiger happens to die, so be it." He smiled at his devious nature, using Yan Baihu to his usefulness and then to be thrown away; it made Liu Yong feel warm inside. "That wasn't the deal!" Taishi Ci rose abruptly and yelled, Liu Yong was shocked by his outcry. The commander quickly turned and left the podium, and motioned for a captain to sound a horn -- which set his own unit to play. Liu Yong rose suddenly to try to mend the situation, but then thought against it. "Perhaps I'll just let this play out..." the other commanders at the table sat speechless. A messenger arrived, looking concerned about Taishi Ci storming away from the make-shift stage in a hurry. Liu Yong sat back down, and gestured for the hesitant messanger to deliver his letter. Liu Yong read it quickly, "I see, give him 1,000 Spearmen and 1,000 archers." All of his commanders looked at him quizzically. Liu Yong: Stationed just outside Jian Ye 4,000 Militia 1,000 Swordsmen 1,000 Crossbowmen 1,000 Horsebowmen
Taishi Ci: Moving towards the bridge. 3,000 Swordsmen 3,000 Spearmen 2,000 Calvary 1,000 Archers 2,000 Crossbowmen
Zhou Yu: ??? 1,000 Spearmen 1,000 Archers

Zhou Yu's arrival at Jian Ye from the north was interesting. Usually known to be a Wu sympathizer, the deviant from Lu Jiang known for his tenacity and ferociousness. He arrived cloaked, his entourage of scouts immediately setting off before he even sent his welcome to Liu Yong, galloping off across the bridge to try and make it up the nearest mountain to set about doing something dastardly.
Zhou Yu sent a messenger to Liu Yong, whom he had been in conversation with recently to hammer out their understanding of the defense of this invasion. Yu had been instrumental in preparing Liu Yong's defense of Sun Ce, outlining the young lord's plans for Yong and applicable defenses.
The 2,000 men that were under his stead showed up along with his messenger, and they set off. Heading immediately towards the bridge, their goal was the mountains, to help slow down the advance of Huang Gai and Sun Yuan Ci.

Huang Gai's force was just barely in front on Sun Yuan Ci's force as they began the slow ascension of the mountain. Zhiyun felt uneasy for every single moment, as their position was unsecure and an ambush would likely spell defeat on the western front. Sun Yuan Ci led cavalry but in the current terrain, their horses were useless. Should any enemy approach, Zhiyun would have to forsake training and purpose of advantage and dismount his cavalry to fight with spears on foot.
Huang Gai was in front, his entire force being archers, and an ambush would wipe out many of his men without seeing similar results upon the enemy. Because of these conditions, Zhiyun worried, but he also did not believe an ambush would be prepared so far from the city, where the mass of Sun Ce’s forces also had just arrived. To do so would be risky, and no man that served Liu Yong would be bold enough, or smart enough, to suggest it. But it would have been devastating.
Sun Yuan Ci saw Huang Gai reach the peak of the southern mountain, and with that he rode up with a small company, his horse’s legs battling to ride with speed against an inclined elevation.
“Behold,” Zhiyun said as he slowed his horse to a brief halt, “The city of Jian Ye. No other walls south of the Chang Jiang River host such a gem.”
“It’s magnificent!” Spoke Zhiyun’s captain as he rode next to the silver-clad warrior.
“We stand high and far away yet. Watch as we draw near, and lo! how daunting it shall be beneath its hostile walls. But how secure and glorious it shall be to stand atop them, and call out to any fool who’d seek to topple it from our hands.”
Sun Yuan Ci said, fantasizing about having such a city to call home to a force such as Sun Ce’s. Should he conquer Jian Ye, he would secure himself as a grand power in the land, and only a few could contend with him in terms of might and strategy.
Zhiyun beckoned to Huang Gai as he rode up, the forces reaching the peak of the mountain.
“General, there is the bridge that connects these two mountains. My cavalry will be of more use ahead from this point, so I shall ride at double pace ahead and scout the northern mountain for an ambush. My force must reach the base of the northern mountain before too grand a force is arrayed against us, or our strategy will not work and we shall be overrun.”
Bowing his head to Huang Gai, he sped his horse by, Huang Gai’s unit slowing down as they allowed the cavalry to surpass them and begin crossing the grand tall bridge that connected the two mountains. Zhiyun was unsure of what lay ahead, but he did know of his destination, and he wondered if the man Taishi Ci was as bold a warrior as the tales foretold.
Huang Gai's unit reaches the peak of the southwestern mountain.
Sun Yuan Ci's force scouts ahead, crossing the bridge and riding double time to scan the northern mountain and reach the clearing at the northern base of the mountain.

Cheng Pu arrived at the eastern bend in the road with his cavalry unit. He sat atop the steed, spear gripped in hand. He held his reigns in the other, "see how you failed us?" He thought to himself. The rest of the army had already arrived, Sun Ce and Huang Gai, the only two regulars from Bofu's army he recognized. Wulong Wang had been enroute as an attached force to his command. They were tasked with sweeping through the eastern forest and coming upon Wang Lang, the lord of Huiji and seizing the enemy supply depot. Wang Lang had been a capable minister, yet, he was as skilled in war as a puppy dog in boxing a gorilla. It was apparent the main threat in the eastern front was going to come from Yu Fan and any reinforcements sent their way. With speed on their side, maybe they could still come out on top.
Cheng Pu shouted to his soldiers on the roadside, "My brave countrymen! We have come here today to reclaim the ancestral lands of our clans! We've come to deal a decisive blow against the usurper government. With, or without the aid of Yuan Shu, our spears shall strike a blow here so devastating, that even should we perish in the field, the enemy's hearts will not heal! Ever! I have dodged death more times than I could care to count. So I know it is not simple numbers that prove whom is to be victorious in a conflict. The rebellion, the coalition against the tyrant of Luo Yang, both times our lord was outnumbered, and even at Xiang Yang. Still, he fought to his last breath. I expect you all to do so as well. I am ready to face them, and I will crush them!"
The troops cheered mightily and prepared to set off, as soon as they could, they would be riding for the eastern slopes. Cheng Pu dispatched a contingent of scouts to check the forest for traps and enemy troops, they would report back shortly if there were no ambushers.
TROOPS: 1000 Cavalry Wulong Wang's force yet to arrive.
ACTIONS: Cheng Pu rallies the troops, scouts head out to sweep the forest. He waits for Wulong Wang and Zhuge Jin to arrive.

Zhou Yu looked a very small scroll that he held in betwixt his fingers, the small letters nearly indecipherable. However, Yu's trained mind understood it almost immediately, and he swallowed the letter. He held onto the pigeon that had brought him the message, which he caressed gently in his right hand.
With a quick and deft twist, the bird's neck was broken, it's last hoot a quick cry for help before falling permanently silent. He slipped the dead body into a canvas bag on his horse, and he raised his hand into the air.
His men halted on the bridge, standing in front of Taishi Ci and his men. He turned his horse around, looking directly at the commander in front of him on the bridge.
"Tell me, Ziyi, why do you let this lord Liu Yong parade all over you? Why do you let him forsake his allies like this?
I thought you had more honor than that. I thought you were better. Apparently this coalition is full of children. I will go help Yan Baihu. I don't think that is your fight, Ziyi. Your fight is with Liu Yong. You must settle that fight before this Coalition could ever win."
Zhou Yu whistled and his men about faced, instead of continuing towards the mountains, all of his troops started instead moving towards Yan Baihu and the supply base.
However, his scout troops peeled off, an important message in their grasp. They hauled ass as fast as they could to the top of the northern mountain, where they would wait for Sun Yuan Ci and Huang Gai, intent on delivering a very important message.

Wulong Wang appears in the battle a bit late which was unusual for him to do. He saw his leader for this battle Cheng Pu and his troop and himself were coming as fast as they could. He goes toward the old man that he learn to fight with all those years ago and he was next to im while his troops were behind the troop of Pu.
"Sorry old friend that I am late for this battle. I believe I over sleep which is rare for me. is your troop more prepare then mine? Mine seem a bit sluggish at the moment might have done the same thing as I did since they are the ones that woke me up and told me you were already gone for the battle."
The troop were starting to make their ranks next to Cheng Pu's cavalry. They seem to be down on the moral boost so Wang saw that they needed a great speech to make them more alive during the battle or their cause will be worthless.
"Men, this is time for war not to sleep. This battle will make us more powerful and give fear to are enemies eyes. We are hear under the banner of the great lord Sun Ce. We need to have victory to make are name go in the books and scrolls of history. Some of you might die, some of you might get injured but I promise that all of you will be greatly remembered as a part of this war. The children of all will come around the camp fire and tell stories about accomplishment's tonight. So men get ready for this war so we can bring victory for our cause."
While Wang finished his speech he raised one sword in the air keeping the other in the holder to signalized that people should be ready for the war that is to come and the battle they will be in. Wang was not really ready since his injuries was still severe but bandaged under his armor and tries to hide it but it was in his eyes that the pain was there and he knew Cheng Pu might realize.

Sun Ce scanned his lines, proud of the soldiers that fought in the name of his family. They would all be repaid for their service, for their bravery. That is, if they lived.
On the main road, as well as on all other fronts, Ce's force was severely outnumbered. Cheng Pu and Wulong Wang were tasked with moving up the eastern path which would eventually lead them to Wang Lang. Upon arrival, they would be at a disadvantage of more than two to one. Huang Gai and Sun Yuan Ci had an even more daring task, bordering more on the lines of insanity than strategy. Should their plan work out, there could be the possibility of being outnumbered twenty to one.
The young leader looked across to the enemy commander, Yan Baihu. The Shanyue did not seem to be in any real formation as was typical with common peasants. They barely had enough training to even wield a sword or spear never mind know how to form up appropriately. Ce had his own group of such soldiers, but his force was a well oiled machine and Baihu's was a bag of shit.
Ce knew that numbers alone did not win battles. None in this land were aware, but just roughly one hundred years prior, to the west in Britannia, a small detachment of Romans defeated a massive host of barbarians. The former had only but 10 thousand against the barbarian horde of 100 thousand or more. Still, the elite trained Romans annihilated the much larger force.
"Militia!"
The group of peasants were given the command and they moved to the fore to aid Li Wang with the very troop deficient front lines.
Now, with the peasants bolstering the lines, there were 11 hundred infantry. Behind them were 10 hundred archers, under the command of Lu Fei, and they were all ordered to move forward. The peasants were out of luck, as far as protection from arrows, but the sword group had shields to utilize. They were trained to deflect arrows as best they could, trying to minimize casualties to their numbers and hopefully save the lives of some archers as well.
Ce watched as his front began to move into position. They would form up within archer range and let loose a volley into the enemy soldiers.

Summary:
Sun Ce orders Li Wang to move forward with 1100 soldiers (600 Peasants, 500 Swords) and right behind is Lu Fei with 1000 Archers. They halt within range to let loose a volley.

The young mystic stood on the edge of her towered ship, enjoying the view. It was taking some time to move along the river, but that was to be expected. She overlooked her tight wedge formation approvingly and bade her rowers to continue. They beat the drums, and the ships of the Wu army pushed forth.
Ulayne was not only a mystic, but also a tactician, and she had developed a few ploys that she wished to at least attempt to use in this battle. Growing up in Wu, she knew Wang Lang's signature fairly well from the many proclamations that he had put out to his people, and she knew very well the uniforms that Wang Lang's soliders wore. She had planned a very secretive project for ten of her trained warriors to carry out. First, she had some of the idle peasants sew together uniforms in the color and style of Wang Lang's men. Then, she forged a letter whose contents went as follows:
Ulayne bade one of the lesser ships take ten men to the shore that they might discreetly sneak into Yu Fan's camp and "accidentally" allow the letter to fall into his hands. It would be a difficult mission, but only one of the men needed to get through in order for this to have at least a demoralizing effect on Yu Fan's forces. She didn't expect an all-out betrayal by Yu Fan, but this letter might spark some distrust which would clearly lower the morale of the reinforcements from Wu.
The ten men each wore the sewn garments of Wang Lang's army, and each were themselves men of Wu, handpicked by Ulayne. She made sure that each of them spoke with the proper dialect to be thought of as one of Wang Lang's men. The ten chosen men accepted the mission, as Ulayne promised thirty gold to anyone who successfully allowed this letter to fall into Yu Fan's hands, not to mention the glory that would be involved. The lesser ship broke off from the back of the wedge as Ulayne prayed that the river spirits would aid these brave men in their quest.
Summary:
Ulayne's navy presses forward.
Ulayne sends ten men to plant rumours in Yu Fan's camp of an alledged plan by Wang Lang to have him assassinated. Read above for more details on how this is done.
