Dudes! Dun, Ren, let me know when you're ready. The Dragon is slowly raising out of the dirt again. If we hope to relieve Shu of Xinye, it has to be soon. Since they now have some officers I won't feel so bad in attacking them

Since Ren said he'll hopefully recover full in activity in a matter of days, I'll lead the vanguard ASAP into Xinye. If difficult to join in the first attack, Ren should hop in as reinforcements as another surprising factor to the enemy.

So, I'm going to post later this day.
I think I'll leave for Wan then. What am I supposed to do afterwards? May I simply attack then or do I have to wait for orders, etc.?

rotk-newera.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=skatwjx&action=display&thread=1090"TO WARRR!" - Christopher Lee Rallying the common folk should be pretty easy, since Xinye was Wei's prior to the events of the Jing in the year (219) the game is currently in. Xiahou Dun and Cao Ren both will participate in this attack. You will both have the aid of siege equipment to conquer the stronghold. I implore you to try and do it stealthily as possible, but you have suffient enough forces to hold out against the worst. Forces available: 700 Light Swordsmen 700 Levy Spearmen 600 Peasant Bowmen 500 Light Cavalry 500 Retinue Swordsmen 500 Retinue Spearmen 500 Crossbowmen 500 Heavy Cavalry 500 Horsebowmen 2 Onagers 2 Battering Rams 20 Ladders

General Idea:
Well I'd suggest you break into multiple small parties, primarily archers and sack the first camp quietly, then slowly take up positions around the stronghold. Sending a cavalry party down south to ransack the other camps, keep them busy while you seize the stronghold. That way, they can't call for help.
Tai (Xiahou Dun) is charge of conducting the attacks. While Cao Ren will win over the citizentry who were former followers of Wei, and position the main forces for a multi-frontal assault on the stronghold.
Tai needs to stop the two camps alerting Xinye of our presence while Cao Ren assaults the stronghold. That is important.
Use your own personal armies, and take what else you need from the list above. Remember you can only have a max of 5,000 troops all told in this battle.

Good idea, commander.
It's good that I have some lieutenants with me. Justin said it's 5,000 Kingdom army soldiers + personal armies. So we have a good chance with the right equipment.
Just as you said, I would've taken out the camp as well. It's pretty obvious. We should do it as fast as possible, not too many troops however so we don't have to face enemy archers right away and suffer too many casualties. Cao Ren and Yu Jin should lead the attack. Niu Jin stays at the main camp's borders. After the camp is taken (or before), Xiahou Dun shall immediately move to the south with a Cavalry unit and take out the two camps as you have said. Cao Ren will move to the east and talk over the citizens in the village. Just so I know it, what do we need the villagers for? So, we should get spotted within the next turn. Yu Jin will lead several Horsebowmen to the gates and harass the archers on the walls. Movement will keep casualties low and draw the attention of the Bowmen towards the main gate. While this is happening, Niu Jin will move alongside the river to stay out of range from the enemy bowmen and then turn to the forests west of the city. Infantry moves 4 hexes per turn, so we should get to the walls within one. He will be accompanied by Swordsmen, Bowmen as well as ladders (do they count as troops as well?). He'll set them up and climb them. Swordsmen will assault the remaining archers on the walls and the Bowmen will take their positions. The onagers within the castle may cause problems, that is why we have to draw the attention to the north. Their range is long enough to take out Niu Jin while he's traveling at the coast, as well as impede Xiahou Dun's movements in the south. As soon as we get into the castle, it should be a piece of cake. I'll try to open the gates as fast as possible and when our main army arrives in the fortress, it's over.
Another possibility would be to set up a catapult somewhere out of the onager range and destroy the onagers in the castle during the assault on the camp. This will give Niu Jin more room and relieve our forces in the north, as well as help Xiahou Dun. However, it may cause us getting spotted earlier.
What about the villages in the south? I think they're a waste of time.
Do we know yet who is going to reinforce the fortress from Shu? Things may turn out much differently when they come up with 5.000 troops as well.
[EDIT: Okay, it's Zhuge Liang]
Oh. Should we magically not get spotted for whatever reason, I'll leave the Horsebowmen in the camp and rather advance with Yu Jin to the forests. This will cause the fortress to be surrounded from the west and south. Cao Ren will take the forest route and take the eastern walls.
Just a question, is it one ladder per hex or how should I understand it?
That's pretty much anything that comes to my mind right now. Is it okay to discuss this here or should we desist from that in the future? And solely plan it in the battle thread?

Oh, look. Turns out all those people in Cheng Du were "imposters" and they're actually all in Xin Ye, not because of OOC knowledge that we were attacking at all.
I say we don't even post in the battle thread and say our troops marched for a different city altogether.
Post in the city thread of another city with an army and start the siege.

Attack Yong An instead. Give no warning whatsoever. Don't PM Mikey, don't even make a battle thread in the battle section. Go to the Yong An board, make a new thread called "Siege of Yong An" and post your troop numbers and start the siege. We can use OOC information as well. rotk-newera.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=yonganThis board. Hit "new thread" and do as I said. Don't even bother posting in the current battle thread. That was a "feint" attack to draw out their troops while we marched on Yong An.

I'm not that comfortable with your plan. I guess we should wait for a mod to say his opinion first.
